i had the same issue

turns out it was a cheap crap 12v usb socket from tesco
no shielded and was cutting the dab constantly
now i just plug the phone into the built in usb on the dash and never lose signal

"" edit"" i have retried with several different 12v things, and i get the same issue with most of them, apart from the fishing lamp that sits on top of the van and plugs into the socket

Thanks for the info but only use the factory usb for out phone lead, the radio works fine when not on DAB ... as soon as you switch to DAB it’s shocking

Have a look on Amazon for Anker brand..

I've got a few 12vdc USB chargers.....

1way,2way,4way,5way.

All work ok with the Van's DAB.

My Dab is crap down in Dorset, got a shark fin on the roof and it was slightly less crap, went with a 4g dongle and internet radio and have never looked back.

What do you run the internet radio from . . . ? . . . To get it coming out of van radio?

Spotify on phone bluetoothed to radio?

I had the same issue and it turned out to be a USB charger I had stuck into one of the 12v sockets. I was amazed that such a small thing could cause so much interference. Definitely check the wiring etc from your aftermarket bits as it is highly likely its caused by something you have added,

I either plug my phone in and use CarPlay apps like TuneIn or Spotify, or Bluetooth TuneIn/Spotify/AppleMusic from my phone.

The phone pulls all my data from my 4g dongle with its own data sim, my phone data is quite limited at only 4gb a month so it gets rinsed pretty quickly.
My 4g sim is from Virgin, 100gb for £20 a month and it rolls over 20gb a month too, so I have lorry loads of data to use up every month.

The kids iPads and the wife all jump on the dongle too, means they are all quiet and I can enjoy the drive.

Sweet. Good solution. =]

The DAB aerial fitted by VW is not great. A decent antenna on the back of the roof will transform the performance of the unit.

Hi all,

Just picked up a new (to me) 2017 transporter and although FM radio is working fine DAB won't pick up anything at all in several different locations so something isn't right somewhere ? anyone have any ideas ?

Many thanks

Tom

Have you got any aftermarket electronics plugged into the 12v sockets in the dash? Many of these will negatively impact DAB reception.

I bet your wing mirror got bashed off in a previous life and the DAB bits either got damaged or disconnected?

I was gonna suggest checking the back of the radio next for a loose plug.

The best upgrade is a shark's fin aerial on the roof, but I'd hate for you to fit one and then find out you have a dodgy headunit.

Can you buzz for continuity between both ends of the plug?

I just got a magnetic roof aerial from Halfords to see if it would improve and it did . It just works all the time . After a year the water has got into the aerial and it stopped working . Back on the mirror ones it’s still rubbish so going to get a better quality roof mount . The problem is getting the wire out of the van last time it went out the passenger door and taped to the roof but could do with something better . I got the Halfords one for £10 so it’s worth a go just to see the improvement before going further.
