The big downside with the hilo is the reduction in internal headroom with the roof down, with a near standard external roof height thos hinges have to fold into something. That said it is still usable and the roof is M1 crash tested and it is so tidy, that tidiness really impresses me, more so than the low profileView attachment 10378 Just found this picture of a Hilo on tinterweb (sorry for tealeafing). Seems like this would be a much better option if you want more room??
Do you have a picture of the inside of your roof in the lowered position? I can't find one anywhereWe went for an SCA 194, not as high lift as the back as the Hilo but still plenty.
The advantage of the SCA is that it still maintains headroom inside when lowered. This is especially useful if you have the RIB seat bed as this is a bit higher than other seats.
Very good point right there. I didn't realise how high rib seats were until I installed mine! Luckily my head doesn't touch the roof if I sit normally but it does if I sit upright with a straight back.We went for an SCA 194, not as high lift as the back as the Hilo but still plenty.

I liked the idea of the Hilo until I saw this guys video of putting it up. Seems like a bit of a faff undoing 4 screws in each corner to release it?
Have you got a picture of the front inside when the top is down by any chanceView attachment 10382 View attachment 10380 Hope these help, if you want anything more specific just let me know
I like that rail, it's what I'm going to get as a final solution, very practicalIt's the VW rail I believe. Or at least that is what was specked with the conversion
I actually found the video really informative and do really like the Hilo roof. Will be pricing one up soon.
I do see where your coming from, the SCA is easier to set up and does have uncountable amounts of good reviews but I like the low profile the Hilo offers and I rather like the idea a sliding board to cover the canvas at the front than a piece of Velcro cloth. I may change my mind when I see one in the flesh or even get one priced. But currently I'm intrigued.@Ed Webb it certainly is a nice looking roof and being able to remove the canvas could be really useful however that locking mechanism would really put me off especially after the simplicity of the SCA roof. The front window of my SCA does zip out though.
