Pop-top fit cost

If ya don't need it save you money for 3 months in France on that cost
Started on my new setup. Ripped out all of the kitchen unit and will salvage some of the furniture board to make up facings. Already made the bed frame based on a design by a YouTuber dantheman321 Van no longer has a saggy arse after taking the rock and roll out and it handles the road better now. Will post pictures as conversion progresses

I’ve not bothered with a pop top, just fitted a full width rib bed. we do all our cooking in the awning or outside
too many stories about them leaking, rattling and opening
Plus I’m tight and it saved us a few quid

Yes. Same reasons I didn't fit one. I am fitting a Heki mini skylight in my roof when I can pluck up the courage to saw a 400mm x 400mm hole in my T6 roof

Sounds like a good idea @Jim Rey for those not in the know, it is amazing how much light these let in, in caravan roof. Built in blackout blind and fly net also good.

Yes, no doubt you get what you pay for but does anyone agree that £5,495 is not a bit expensive at £3,000 more ?
All pop tops are susceptible to issues caused by poor installation and incorrect operation. What you don’t want is the added problem of poor design and manufacturing.
If there is a large price difference you’ll need to evaluate why. In many cases you get what you pay for but none of them are a bargain.
If it’s dead cheap there’s a reason.
A pop topped T6 and a Crafter are completely different animals. I think you want a Crafter!

Yes would have liked a Crafter.
I just decided to take out the rock and roll bed and the usual kitchen and storage cupboards. I am currently making a pull out bed and a feww cupboards. In the process of looking for cushions for the pull out bed.
Will post pictures progress here soon.
Immediate benefits...no more saggy back end and my van is handling a lot better and seems to absorb bumps in road quieter.
Before I took the R&R bed out it was not a pleasant driving experience.
I was thinking originally about getting the suspension fixed to compensate for the R&R bed weight but then I saw and T6 Forums member's design and watched some YT videos on U shaped conversions and thought a bench seat/bed would suit me.

I will get the Heki mini fitted before too long and I am looking forward to the brighter interior and the added benefit of more ventilation.
I am installing it near the back of the van roof between two roof ribs and slightly offset to the nearside to line up the side of the roof-light edges with the roof corrugations making an easier way of sealing on the roof with Sikaflex 522

I’ve been trying to get costs of a roof.. looking at £3.5-£5k..
Skyline £4.6k but that’s with the roof colour coded to the van which is £450..
a company in Hull that do Austops quoted just over £4k as well.

Do U really need a pop top . after 4/5 years you need to replace the canvas and they eventually leak . hassle in the rain folding it down .only 2 off us I had thought of Pop top glad I didn't go ahead.seen lots in Europe without pop top .they all said the same as me .£3000

I decided against paying that sort of money for a poptop. I have bought a 400mm x 400mm Dometic skylight. At least I will be able to stick my head out of it. It will also let light into van and provide ventilation

Not having a pop top is fine if you're 4' 3" - not so good if you're a full size adult.

Plenty of folks have a pop top that don't have the problems you state.

Of all those with a Transporter camper, the number with a pop top dwarfs the number without a pop top, whether that be in the UK or on the continent.

All opinions welcome, but they are just that - opinions.

Where are those based bud..?
Thanks. Looking to get my van sorted asap.
Hi
Get in touch with Paul at Freedom Campers
So easy to get on with, recommends ideas etc, but end of day he understands it’s your choice
Reasonably priced as well

Yea sunshine and no rain definitely helps I spent 2 months in Portugal. Used my side awning to eat and chill out in .only used the van to sleep in no pop top

We have had our austops poptop for about 5 years now, the black gel coat is suffering a bit as I didn’t maintain it in anyway apart from standard van wash but working on bringing it back now. I had planned to wash and then reproof the canvas but it’s actually not that dirty so this may wait until next season (doesn’t need reproofing either will only need that if I clean it). So it’s lasted pretty well so far despite my best efforts.

For me without a poptop it’s just a van not a campervan, I don’t like being in the back when it’s down but when I do go in I shuffle about on my knees, so is this how those people without a top to pop live? The roof up transforms the space in my view
