Rear Parking Sensors not working - help/advice please

Hi

Driving Van on Saturday, came to park up - engaged reverse - loud high pitch noise for a few seconds - rear Parking Sensors are not working. It's a Highline van (66 plate) - so factory fitted sensors.

No errors appear on the Dashboard. I have a Pioneer Headunit, so the factory default picture showing distance etc isn't displayed - not sure if that would have shown an error. Reversing lights are coming on. I have a Reversing camera - that works fine - but assume they operate separately

I've connected Carista - it's brought back 12 "Parking/steering assist" fault codes - searching the forum the codes are as below, there's just code - 1079593 that I can't find reference to.

I'm not technical at all, so will have to take it to a Garage. Just wondered if there was any obvious/known reason why would suddenly fail? I've cleaned the sensors, there's no damage etc - so really weird how they've suddenly stopped working.

I assume it's Bumper off time and process of elimination by the garage - i.e. seeing if one of the sensors has failed - though if this were the case would a specific error code come back below?

Vehicle is a Camper, so hoping wont cause an issue re wiring - i.e. flooring etc will limit access? Conversion was done back in 2017 so assume no issue from that given so long ago.

Thanks in advance

have a listen to each sensor and you should be able to hear it clicking if its working.

Thanks - I'd read that on a different post - so tried - no sound from any of the sensors - both me & the Mrs listened - just to be sure.

Worries me that there's a 'deeper' issue...

are your reversing lights working? it could be that the control unit has broken

Sounds a bit daff, but I had the same issue about a year ago and carista pointed to the a rear sensor problem. I took it to my local garage and it turned out to be a front sensor, get it to a garage with a proper computer, Carista is often misleading.

Yes Reverse lights working - I'd seen on another thread faulty reverse light had solved the issue but sadly not for me.

Control unit - on Googling I think is in the panel below the steering wheel - I'm rubbish at these things and struggling to remove that(!) - think need to take a couple of screws out? Just worried I might do more harm than good if I start messing...

If not Control unit assume would be a bumper off and check wires...

I don't have Front sensors - but thanks anyway. I connected to Carista just to see what it said - confirmed there is clearly an issue!

I've got it booked in next week - just the usual dread it won't be a simple fix. It's at an Independent VW specialist as Van is well outside of warranty.

Hi, did you ever get this resolved?
I've just developed the same problem in my T5.1.
Just had the front passenger seat out and I’m worried it’s no coincidence the rear sensors aren’t working anymore ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hi,

It literally resolved itself! Got in the Van, engaged reverse and normal bleep indicating activated - and bleeped as I approached an object. Think it was about two weeks they were playing up - so goodness knows what the issue is.

Lots and lots of helpful folk on this forum, perhaps post a few more details and I'm sure someone will suggest some helptful advice

Hi. New to this forum and have a similar issue with rear off-side sensor on T6. No jet washing has been done, it just gave a long beep one day when selecting reverse. Swapped sensors around so I know they are all working as I hear them clicking. Put multimeter on faulty sensor block to look for bad earth. Earth ok but got tone on yellow and purple feed which sounds like a short, as this does not happen on other sensors. Get the same from the the T10t block connector under the passenger seat when it's unplugged.

Any next step guidance to narrow down fault further appreciated.

Hi did you find faults as I have same

Hi did you find faults as I have same
I recently fixed my issue with no park pilot or reverse sensors working. I was lucky enough to have my next door neighbour who works at a garage so he brought the laptop home to plug in for me. Turned out to show reverse sensor buzzer. Dead chuffed,£7 from Amazon fixed it. It is in a difficult place under the steering column but very dooable. It’s just a little plastic buzzer that looks like it’s come from a Christmas cracker that VW wanted a crazy 40 quid for the identical part. Sorted and all now working. The laptop also displayed this as a common fault. Hope you get sorted.
