Recommend me some walking boots please.

Been walking about in these bad boys for nearly two years now and apart from a slight scuff on the toe and a third set of laces they show very little signs of wear.
As others have said maintenance is everything but at £39.99 a pair they're almost cheap enough to throw away.

I bought these Karrimores back in 2009. They have done hundreds of miles around muddy and wet nature reserves, foreshore Thames archaeology and cyclo cross circuits but have finally reached the end of their life and I have to replace them this week. Naturally I’ll check what Karrimore do nowadays. However there is one thing I do know before I even start browsing what’s available. I’ll probably have to buy ladies boots again! Unfortunately the boot manufacturers (and urinal installers) o_O don’t realise there are some small men around. They might be a rarity and get big points in the Ispy book of men but we do exist. Everything’s in the right place and working .."ssh, you’re kidding yourself Mick"...but never grew higher than 5’3” :D

Altberg for me. My next motorbike boots will also be Altberg (Daytona at the moment - also good). I had some Meindls previously that were very good until the sole fell off! But by then I had allowed the leather to dry out too much, and they had developed cracks. I’m looking after the Altebergs, and they ate doing me well so far.

Thanks all for the recommendations, a good read. Unfortunately, I find boots need trying on, and even though I live on the edge of the dales, finding a good outdoor shop with a decent range is tricky. But I shall carry on my search, the Mammut's look good, and I had a similar pair a few years back, but finding them to tryon is a problem.

Mammut are very wide fitting if im not mistaken.

I got a pair of Harkila Pro Hunter Ridge GTX about 3 years ago and they have been excellent.
Mainly used for dog walking and the odd bit of hill walking.
Still like new, pricey but worth it.

Altberg for me. Made in Uk and have five different width fittings. I have flat narrow feet. Had my boots for years . So comfortable. You can have the soles replaced when worn.

Another vote for Scarpa, Trek GTX , goretex lined uppers, comfortable out of the box, a bit expensive but last well, I've worn them in cold and warm conditions for multi day walks.

Another Altberg fan. If you can, go to the factory in Richmond Yorkshire. They will measure both feet, stood up and sat down, turned out I had a half size difference in my feet.

I bought a pair of Mammut Sapuen High GTX a couple of months ago. Probably the most comfortable boots I have ever had straight out of the box. I have quite wide feet and large toe joints which caused a real problem getting boots to fit

I totally agree, us Hobbits get a raw deal in shoe shops. Mammut are a safe bet.

We’re big fans of Zamberlan. Just on our second pair. First ones lasted 7years of very heavy usage. Only failed because the soles wore through. Went back to the shop where we originally bought them (Foothills in Sheffield) and they said “we can re-sole those” but we splurged out on new ones. They come in half sizes & different widths. Still handmade in Italy.

Another vote for Scarpa! I wear mine daily for walking the dog. Comfortable, warm and waterproof up to the top of the tongue. I love mine!

If it's particularly cold, wet or muddy (basically this time of year), I typically wear wellies regardless.

Also Scarpa here :)

Took me up Snowdon, Y Garn amongst others with nothing but comfort and grip

My Brasher pair have been incredible and lasted a long time (10 years) and still the most comfy and weatherproof footwear I have.
