Recommend me some wheels

I would agree with these rims for my current AT tires, but they are a death trap in the rain, I would feel safer moving to an AS tire setup, then getting these alloys, or similar.

I think the wet weather performance is a feature of that particular model of tyre rather than AT's per se - as aforementioned, I have no issues.

There are summer and all season tyres that also aren't brilliant, in addition to the excellent ones.

You could treat them to a powder coat prior to fitting to stop the corrosion , that's the only way I see it working ....my advice would be to buy some different wheels .
I've seen some totally gloss black assassin's on a van a few weeks back but I assume these had been refurbished already .
Maybe IF your dead set on them try to find some 2nd hand and start from there ?

I see Assassins as the go to generic wheel for someone with their first Transporter. More often than not on standard height suspension.

In my opinion they would look at odds with your black body cladding, so if you are planning on keeping that, a more off road style wheel would be a better choice. Either way, decide on the final style that you want to achieve, before rushing into individual purchases.

This is probably good advice.

A wealth of experience from T6 owners on this forum, it's very much appreciated. I'm starting to lean towards AS tires from Michelin, and it might be prudent to choose different alloys from the ones I had in mind, back to the drawing board looking for something suitable for the van, open to suggestion :)

18” Calibre Tourer in gun metal with Continental All Seasons. The rims are great value, easy to clean and have the right load capacity. Mine are about 4 years old and absolutely spotless. The tyres are great too and easily as good as Michelin Cross Climates (I have those on my car).

Would you happen to have a link to these alloys? Cheers.

I've got wheels with the polished face - LV 1 20" - and thy were about 3 years old before the wheel worm appeared. I like the polished face so I sanded off the laquer on the diamond cut face and polished them using various grades of wet and dry and some metal polish. A bit of a labour of love, but I just give them a quick wizz with Autosol when I clean the wheels and that gets the shine back on them.

Also, on the understeer issue. It's hard to tell from the pics, but if your van is converted and the front is sitting higher than the rear then the steering will be light and vague and prone to understeer (or the feeling of understeer). Maybe check the distance from wheel centre to arch front to rear.
Mine was like that after conversion and was scary to drive. It was running Pirelli P Zeros so nothing to do with tyres.

Sorry I didn’t buy them as they were on the van when I got it. A google for Calibre Tourer 18” brings up plenty of suppliers but no idea where is good/best.

Yip, this is how my van looks now after the conversion, slightly elevated at the front. Do you suggest I take it into a garage to get it re-balanced or leveled?
You need a suspension specialist.

CRS Performance did mine and many others on here.

The other forum recommended specialists are even further South though.

I can confirm what @Paynewright said.
This is how converted vans look before they go to @CRS Performance. Could fit my whole head in the arch gap!

Yeah, mine is stock height (stock springs but the Koni special active shocks fitted at CRS). To me the OPs van looks higher. Mine doesn’t sag and it’s not the heaviest conversion (T28 weighing in at 2.26t with a full tank).
Maybe it’s the angle of the photo and the wheel arch covers? Edit: think it is the optical illusion of the wheel arch covers.
I can’t fit my head in the gap - going to go round shoving my head in all the Transporter wheel arch gaps parked locally. Maybe my head needs calibrating?

Taller sidewalls from the AT tyres too?

It could be, I'm too much of a noob camper owner to know one way or the other, but I know a few people that would know the difference, so I'll check with them, get them to measure it up. I can build high-end computers, but useless with cars tbh.

In the meantime, I'll keep looking for those alloys :)

This is a very similar van to mine with MS paint brushed in black trim to simulate my van with the wheels I want, how does it look?

A normal Garage might not know what to do and how to do it , they probably dont have the necessary parts as well , Levelling a van up sounds like the simplest of things to do , but with out the correct range of parts they wont get it right .

The two wheel arch measurements are what is needed . They should be as close to each other as possible , the sill measurements however should be 40 mm lower in front

Thank you for this, I've measured the front wheel arch being 1 inch higher than the rear, and the sil 10mm lower at the front, It looks like I might need to see a specialist and get the suspension leveled?

Just a follow up on yesterday’s post about how I polished the diamond cut face of the alloys.
This is what they look like if you don’t wash the wheels for 2 or 3 months. This pic is AFTER they’ve been washed!
IMG_7338.jpegAnyway, I’ve just given that wheel a quick wipe with 1500grit wet and dry (lubricated by the tears of a 56year old) and then 2 spokes had a quick polish with autosol and they are not far off being ok.

IMG_7339.jpegHave to go out so I’ll post a pic of how a full wheel turns out later in the week.

We could probably send you the parts you need to do this . just get someone up there to fit it >>??
