Taking the windscreen out and leaving the tailgate open should reduce the drag
There is a flaw in that if you have a full load of balloons on board.

But then it would be lighter?? Less tyre dragThere is a flaw in that if you have a full load of balloons on board.
I would say the ceiling is more important. There is a flaw in that if you have a full load of balloons on board.
@Andyman. From all I've read on here the answer to your problem is either just suck it up or drive like a granny when she's having a particularly slow day. T6s and 6.1s just seem to be poor on fuel consumption (and that includes my 150). Of course, somebody will be along soon to contradict me and say that they regularly get in the mid 40s for MPG but, personally, I'm sceptical...
Hope it's not a serious problem with the van......because you were obviously being towed for most of those 20 miles. That was yesterday by the way.......a twenty mile trip up the A1 after a fill up with Vpower. Even I was impressed!!
I agree about 55-60 being the sweet spot for mpg, I can just about eek out high 30's at that.Nope........it's genuine. The MFD is actually quite accurate since I had it re calibrated. I was doing a steady 55 to 60 just to see what I could get. Normally, I'd expect 55 to 60 mpg but I must have had a slight tailwind.......honestly, I couldn't believe it!
Jeez.......that's shocking! The inconsistent fuel consumption has been discussed on here for years! For info, mine is a 2016 eu6 150bhp manual kombi.......right now, running on 16" Claytons. From day one, I have run it on Shell Vpower and diesel rhino fuel treatment. I was talking to a diesel mechanic last week........he used to work for VW. He said he'd just removed a fuel filter for a customer. He said it was a solid block of wax and blamed a certain supermarket chain. He told me never to use supermarket fuel........he didn't need to because I never have! I even run my garden equipment on Vpower...........standing by for much mockery but these are the tools of my trade and bio ethanol and benzines are a real killer for small engines. Laugh all you want gents but my T6 consumption is bloody great! Day to day running (no short trips) gives me low to mid 40's........take it on a run and 50 plus is no big deal.I agree about 55-60 being the sweet spot for mpg, I can just about eek out high 30's at that.
See post #18 I'm not complaining!Jeez.......that's shocking! The inconsistent fuel consumption has been discussed on here for years! Not wanting to go off topic but yes vpower for me 99% of the time. Reluctantly had to put tesco fuel in this week due to lack of fuel stations in the area. My 200bhp dsg at a pretty constant 70mph drive home fully loaded averaged 33mpg. Looking at remaps and what gains can be had to increase fuel economy.Jeez.......that's shocking! Similar experience here, but now I've not got 18s and wider tyres and a Revo map, it'll return 42-44 doing 70mph. Knocking around I'll see around 37. Always use Shell tooJeez.......that's shocking! I get 33 to 35 mpg on my 204 before and after the pendle remap.I average 22ish on my 204, so count yourself lucky
I would just put it down to the fact that some people's 'real worlds' are very different and obviously more conducive to giving better MPG than others. I know mine isn't!@mopardave. I don't know you so I won't insult you by calling you a liar but, sorry, I'm still sceptical (very, very sceptical) that anything like that can be achieved in real world driving.
When rolling down a long downhill section, reset the long term trip, carry on rolling as long as you can, pull over and take a photo. I bet you can beat 76mpg.@mopardave. I don't know you so I won't insult you by calling you a liar but, sorry, I'm still sceptical (very, very sceptical) that anything like that can be achieved in real world driving.
You don't @Ayjay .......and I'd be sceptical too. No, it absolutely wasn't a real world situation........it was a 22 mile drive up the A1, with I suspect a slight tail wind and perfect traffic conditions. Yes, I've seen 70+ once before at that was again whilst benefiting from a tail wind up the A1. Once I realised conditions were going to be perfect, I set my stall out to see what I could get. Generally, I average around 40mpg. Anyway, it's not a p*ssing contest. I was astounded to be honest. As for setting it up by rolling down a hill and messing with the trip...........yawn. It was a direct response to your post #10. When you said someone will come along in a moment.......I had to chuckle at the irony of it. Anyhow, your cynicism matters not to me one way or the other.........but it's absolutely genuine.......and absolutely NOT what you would call real world. None taken.@mopardave. I don't know you so I won't insult you by calling you a liar but, sorry, I'm still sceptical (very, very sceptical) that anything like that can be achieved in real world driving.
