It is! Well done on finding.. I couldn’t when I replied. Is this what you mean? Cant see any reason why you couldn't cut both skins a bit more?

Having just re-read this, my advice would be to seek out a mint sliding door with a window already fitted.Heard someone talking that the window apertures on transporters and caravelle/calis are different. Was wondering if the OEM sliding window will fit a panelvan, or whats the deal? Ordered a T6.1 and wanting to fit OEM sliding window behind the driver, on the side (left hand drive van, with a solid panel on left hand side middle)
Also heard they have renewed the locking mechanism for the sliding window, wonder if they've done any changes for the leaking problem?
If you never open them, why not fit non-openers?Wouldn't go for the VW original windows myself. Had these on two campervan T5s in 2004 - 2008, plus a T5.1 in 2014, and now a 2016 T6.
Guess what? Every single van, the windows leaked. One of the early vans had to have three sets of new windows before we got a set which were weatherproof.
Our current van goes back to the dealer for its first new windows next month.
When we have finally solve the leak, our answer is NEVER to open the windows - if you do,grit gets in and causes the problem to restart.
Until the windows are replaced, we just keep them taped up.
Worst bit of VW design ever!

I think the issue is that the lip would be cut back so far that you may struggle to put a rubber trim around it if cut back any further.
More cost in changing them, and you'd devalue the van. When selling, some - probably most - potential buyers would want the van to be at least at the original standard, and would look askance at a van without openers. We just keep them shut, and if we want lots of extra air on site, either open a door, or one of our small opening windows in the high-top, which don't leak.If you never open them, why not fit non-openers?
I'd say with fair confidence the door card is not part of the intended gutter system. The gutter itself is in the window where the sliding partition moves. You could try cleaning the seals first and applying some seal restorer on them, maybe leaving the window a bit open when possible to let the seal expand to its normal state. The gutters have holes in the which lead to a funnel type on mechanism which displaces the water between the panel and the window to the outside of the van. You could try blowing some compressed air through them to try to unclog them if there's something blocking them. Theres also a possibility that any leaked water might have gone for between the window and the sliding rail system itself, an simple fix for that is a bead of silicone like shown in this video.Hi guys, hope this is the right thread and someone will be able to help. In the process of converting my shuttle and have decided to do away with all the trim so took the sliding door cards off yesterday. Since then I've noticed a little bit of leakage. Am I right in thinking the OEM windows (in shuttles) need the door card in play as it also provides a lower part of the gutter tray? Or have I just got a leaky window issue that I should take back to VW on warranty.
Here's some pics that hopefully explain where the leak is coming from. I'm assuming Kombi sliding windows have a full length trim that clips into the top part.

Where did you buy these?Hello all,
I have a set of genuine Kombi sliding windows for my panel van. I’ve had a search on here for fitting information but can’t really find anything, I’m aware that these often leak..
From what I understand, there is no ‘U’ trim used on the inner and outer skins from factory, and there is additional cutting to do?

The hole that will be cut out of the panel van will be a different size than the hole for the OEM windows.Hi all,
I'm currently finding myself with a little more spare time to crack on with my conversion and I want to get the windows done asap.
I know this is a continuous ongoing discussion in this forum so apologies in advanced if this has been covered, but I'm curios to know if anyone has done this.
Does anyone/has anyone bought second hand oem sliders and 'fixed' the leaking issue before fitting them? I'm set on having oem sliders as I'm convinced everything else just doesn't look quite right.
Cheers!
Sorry, I'm not sure I'm following. I haven't cut any holes in the van as of yetThe hole that will be cut out of the panel van will be a different size than the hole for the OEM windows.
If the drains have been cut off during removal - likely - you need to make a small plastic drain, fully sealed connected to the drain hole in the runner, however I wouldnt bother. If you get it wrong you will have leaks, but get it right then all is good. The OEM windows have a drain but even if they work, where they attach to the runner section it is with a sticky non setting material which does not seal over time and will leak.Hi all,

No, I have been informed its the fixed side as well.Ah right, I see the issue now. So my next question is, is it only the sliding door that has a smaller aperture? Is the Drivers side the same as a Kombi/Caravelle etc and wont have this issue?
With a heavy tint and the rubber covering the aperture, in theory it should be fairly discreet? Or is that wishful thinking. I'm really not keen on any aftermarket sliders
I would speak to @ma77y about the THQ windows, he has just fitted some.Does fitting aftermarket sliders to replace leaking Kombi windows cause any issues due to the factory cut window space?
I'm looking to put THQ sliders in my Kombi to replace the leaking OEM sliders.
I personally wouldn't bother with THQ sliders or their glass full stop.Does fitting aftermarket sliders to replace leaking Kombi windows cause any issues due to the factory cut window space?

Thanks for the feedback @ma77yI personally wouldn't bother with THQ sliders or their glass full stop.
Curvature of the glass isn't 100%, can see ripples in the reflection and the radius on corners is badly cut.
I'm usually quite picky when it comes to stuff like this but hardly notice it anymore due to the fact I just want to get my van converted and it's not a show van.
Next time we convert I'll be buying a new van from Vw and spec windows from factory. Even if factory sliders leak at least they're covered under warranty.
