Road Tax - What are you paying?

Just checked my bank statement and like so many others, horrified that I am now paying £335 p.a. for a 2021 vehicle.

BUT, if I have understood this page from GoCompare (and assuming it's correct), that rate is for a vehicle registered between 1 March 2017 > 31 March 2017.

It appears to show that the second year and onwards rate for vehicles registered after 1st April 2017 is £190.

What am I missing and if these numbers are correct, has anyone taken on the DVLA and won?

Governments tinker with road tax every year.

And likely to go up much more from Friday

My Kombi is a Light Goods Vehicle @ £335

Yep my Caravelle (now it's past the extra tax due to the purchase price) is only £16 a month.
Extra seats, full interior instead of hardboard panels, half-price RFL, higher speed limits, etc, etc, etc.
I so wish I’d known enough to look for a Shuttle or Caravelle when I bought my Kombi!

Yeah the extra spec and 'car' features are great!

But, if you want to do any major conversation work then a bare van is still better to begin with. And if course there's the cost! The extra £5-10k buys a lot of stuff!

Being retired the VAT on the pre-reg LWB Highline Kombi with soft close twin sliders, heated seats, Comfort dash etc brought cost up to very close to Shuttles at the time.
S’pose grass always greener?
Ooh, and I’d forgotten about 2x RFL etc until this eve!
Hey Ho…

Hi, just stumbled across your post. I've recently bought a 2020 T6 and the 'road tax' is the same £335. They're classed a 'Light goods vehicles'. The £190 is for a different taxation class, so you're (we're) paying (unfortunately!) the correct rate.
Ironically, I've downsized from a 4005kg motorhome, that due to the weight was classed as a Private HGV. The road tax was only £165. Hey-ho!

I'm only paying £20 for my car!! (Mazda 2.2D Sport-Nav) Love the van, so £335 is a justifiable necessity...! ;)
£00.00 for my van ;)

TBH, if I weren't 'disabled' I wouldnt grumble too much about paying the van tax. It'd be a bit churlish to spend £50k on a van and then get upset over £335 vehicle tax bill.

But you'll see a good chunk of that £50k back when you sell. You'll never see the 'tax' money again.

Or just avoid the tolls ;)
We do, but then you’re stuck behind miles of HGVs that have been priced off the autoroutes. Our French & German friends rave about our roads, and having driven in both of their countries, I can see why.
