Road Tax - What are you paying?

Hi,

Mine was £290 the year.

I don't consider it a bad price as you have to pay for the van lifestyle.

2017 Shuttle SE. I was warmed by the seller that the premium would be in place for two years, ~£490 last June when I bought it, and £490 at the start of June. But the V5C does state that the premium rate is only in place until May next year.

I've had a 2012 Passat for the last 6 years so 6 x £30 is a nice offset has nicely offset the recent hike. Even my old 2002 Passat was around £140 a year when we owned it.

Looking at buying a new/nearly t6 .camper. Regarding road tax. If I source a new van under 40k! and have it I pay to get it converted. I guess I would pay standard road tax.could I then get it classed as a camper for speed limits. If I buy at 52k 1st registered keeper but obviously the convertors would not have paid 40k would I have to pay the extra road fund license amount.

For M1 classed vehicles, the £40k threshold is based on the full OTR list price of the vehicle including all factory fitted options, regardless of the actual price you pay.

N1 classed vehicles are taxed on the flat commercial vehicle rate. Posts #101 and 102 above say N1 can't be changes to M1 anymore, so my understanding is that the vehicle will always be taxed on how it left the factory.

Had a shock when I opened my latest Tax letter. £520!! 2018 Shuttle Se. Hopefully next year it will go down as itll be over 5 years old..

Not wanting to piss on your chips, but it's up to 6 years old.

There is a higher 'showroom tax' added to the on the road charge, which included the first years road fund licence, then the next 5 years (years 2-6) have the additional £335 added to them.

It's worth noting that if your tax is due when it's 5 years 11 months old, if you tax it for 12 months, you'll be charged £520. The thing to do is switch to monthly direct debit. That way you'll pay one month at the high rate, then as soon as it's 6 years old, you can cancel the DD and tax it for a year for £185.

Had loads of dealers and private sellers trying to convince me that the £520 didn't apply to their vehicle. So be aware.
Funny, as when you come to buy the vehicle you would have to tax it to drive it away. I suppose it would be at that point they fain surprise and pint to the 'No Cooling Off Period' in their dodge terms & conditions.

I just had the first tax reminder come through...

I paid £150 last year for my 2019 T6 shuttle camper, but noticed this is because it’s classed as a MPV. Sorry not much help but interesting different.

Yours must have been less than £40k when new then. More than that and you'd be paying the added £335 posh tax.

Letter through the post today, £290,
2017 Kombi 150ps seams online that's the going rate for this year for light commercials
