Running a dash-cam off reverse cable

The power to the lights is via the BCM. It’s not a clean 12v. The BCM switches the lights by using PWM. Use the light feed to switch a relay and use the relay to switch a constant 12v supply to your camera.
Can you recommend a relay please?

I found this thread really helpful when i did mine, i took clean supply from the centre dash fuse board using a piggy back fuse, there is a reverse feed in behind the glovebox to use for the switch and i hid the relay behind the glovebox

Can you recommend a relay please?
Or would this work?

I bought one of these for my LED lights after reading about using a 12v - 12v voltage regulator might be a good idea for them….

I had a similar problem using reversing light +ve feed for additional lights and WiFi camera feed, it was solved by using a local ground on the D Pillar instead of the tail light ground. Simple enough to test.
Thanks, I have disconnected the reverse camera ground from the rear light loom and connected directly to chassis. Now working properly with indicators or hazard lights.Good advice much appreciated.

Hey
Problem Solved - Ran a new cable from camera to the "reverse" signal cable to the head unit. Now the camera is only live when reverse is selected and it works fine when engine is running.

Thanks for all the help
mate do you remember what wire you tapped into? Color etc? I have a plug and play harness for my headunit from
Absolute5 also and I’m in the process of a aftermarket camera and I’m up to the reverse wire power lol
Cheers

What harness did we supply you ?

Hey man it was the one with the Kenwood dmx8020dabs. Just the harness to retain the factory buttons, sensors etc. I just want to tap into the reverse signal wire behind the head unit and save having to mount and wire a relay at the rear.
Cheers!

The poor camera image when powering the camera from the reverse light cable mentioned in one of the earlier threads is a known problem for the T6, and is related to the reverse lights powered by the canbus system. This makes the camera voltage supply unstable. Audiovolt in the Netherlands offer a small electronics box with a filter to solve the problem. Connect between reverse light and the camera.
