Rusty Door Seals

This job has just been added to my to-do list now after finding mine have gone rusty when doing other jobs yesterday. I’m going to go for the repro ones, even at a third of the price they can’t be any worse than the OEM ones.

Just following that link I notice they do full packages for all doors. Do the sliding door and tailgate seals suffer from the same rusting problem?
the rear seals fit just the same they get removed when carpeting the trick is not to stretch them or compress so the ends join together nicely put a slight pressure bend on and they gape that slides over the carpet, run a thin trim tool round it's a doddle of a job

Cheers will give it a go tomorrow
Deffo worth persevering, VW quoted me £255 labour only for the driver door only. 2.5 hours, one door. Think 4 hour quote originally was for both front doors. Still lot of money saved if you can do it yourself.

Sorry to post this here as it's not a front door seal related question - its to do with the tailgate door seal. Is there a similar seal to fit on the tailgate itself? I can find multiple seals that fit to the van aperture, but not that actual tailgate itself. Any pointers?

I need to do this job on both my front doors. Does anyone have a link to where I can buy replacement seals, or the part numbers to get the OEM seals?

veedub transporters sell these as well for £34.99 a side.

VW T6 Door Seals - Vee Dub Transporters

Really easy to fit .Fitted mine a year ago and still look good and tight .probably take you half an hour a side if you take your time and do it right .As @A Bridge Too Far says loosen off roof trim then Start and finish at the same point as the originals ,and make sure you tap them right into the corners as you go, try not to get half way round and realise its not tight in a corner you have done and have to pull it off and start again!! (it will weaken the grip if you keep taking it off). They come slightly long so when you are nearing the end mark the seal and cut the excess off gently with a hacksaw.

I marked the length against the old seals and noticed the new ones were slightly longer once fitted so would refrain from cutting to length until the end just in case !!

I replaced the seals on both front doors today, it’s a bit of a fiddly job around the step but easy enough.

The new seal has some extra rubber profile that is only needed between the step and up to the panel where the airbag switch is. It was very easy to snip the profile and then tear off the unneeded bit.

The new seal looks to be better quality than the OEM with a wider metal section that will hopefully spread the load a bit better where it gets stood on.

Also by way of an update I completed mine on my lunch break today. Took just over half an hour per door.

Grab handle and folding handle/sunglasses holder need removing, and it would have been handy to take off the seatbelt guide but I didn't have a big enough torx driver. Trim removal tools are also seriously recommended. Would definitely recommend doing it yourself rather than paying others to fit!

need to do this on our passenger side as i now cant put our screen cover on without water coming in - i can put it down only to seal wear?

i was also thinking of replacing the small seal that goes from the front door hinge to the back of the sliding door...anyone done this?

Hi everyone I'm a total noob and just got my used T6 and would appreciate some advice please. I noticed driver's door seal is like this, do you think it needs replacing or just gluing down? If glue what sort of glue do you think?

Also, this I think needs some kind of seal too, I think it's a little drafty... I recommendations?

Thanks!

Best to replace it. Common problem. Happens over time when your feet catch it. Easy enough to do.

Thanks I've just found a threat explaining how to on here too. Much appreciated.

Just need to find some kind of seal strip for the other issue I guess?

That shouldn’t be letting any air in. The gap is there to stop rattling, is my guess.

I did this seal on my T5. Hardest job was cleaning off the sticky goop left behind by the old one. Then just trim new one to length, peel and stick. Make sure you line it up when sticking down, the adhesive is not letting go.

Is this normal? The Van is 6 years old.
I’ve only had it a few weeks, so still finding the gremlins.

I know I can buy replacements, but it’s still under warranty and want to check first if this is ‘normal’.

It’s on drivers and passenger side.

Mine went like that pretty soon on my 1st T6 van. It was a 66 plate. Had them changed under warranty.
