Security Tracker.

Yep, the Ghost issues were on 6.1 he told me.

As for kill switch, the converters will do it, so I can’t claim intimate knowledge of how. But the plan seems to be a basic switch on the feed to the ignition. Press the button before ignition and all is good. If you don’t, it won’t start. Seemed like a pretty fool proof plan to me, as they are simply introducing an artificial break in the feed to the ignition.

What trackers are you using? My insurance has asked I get one within two weeks of owning the van. I am in Surrey. Any recommendations?

Went for a Metatrak S5 deadlock. Easy to use, good tracking, app has some extra features too on driving behaviours and route tracking if you want them. Proximity fob to ensure it won’t start without it being present, and as an extra fail safe, you an also remotely immobilise from the app so even if someone gets your keys and fob, it still won’t start. Impressed with it and simple to use.

picking up a new T6.1 DSG LWB in Ravenna Blue next Saturday. Then it will be off to Jacks-shack in Leicestershire for conversion. Anyone got advice on trackers? The insurance have said I must fit one immediately

Hi and welcome! “Ghost” trackers seem popular on here, though I don’t have one myself!

I had to get one fitted a few weeks ago immediately after collecting my van also for Insurance reasons. Went with tracker.co.uk and the Locate one. Seems okay and the insurance company were happy with it. Only had it a few weeks mind.

Hi Pete, looking on line it looks like Ghost do both trackers and immobilisers. Like Richie M, I’ve looked on tracker.co.uk and Scorpion S7 tracker is £199 fitted, so unless I hear bad things will probably go for one of those.

Don’t be fooled by the upfront cost of the Tracker (Tracker as in the original tracker from Tracker.co.uk Tracker has become a generic term like Hoover) the annual subscription adds up over the years. Mine will have cost around £200/year

@Salty Spuds thanks mate, I’ll check it all out, but at the end of the day it looks like I’ve got to get one for the insurance.
True, but my point was that “Tracker” being the most well known, is probably the most expensive option. There are other cheaper ways of getting a tracking device. It all depends on what the insurance company want. If they want an expensive Thatcham approved one, ask them which category. There are different categories of Thatcham approved tracker & the costs vary. If they will accept any tracker, you can buy a self installed unit off Amazon for under £30. Put a PAYG SIM card in it, put a tenner of credit on the SIM card & it will last all year & allow you to track your van on your phone.
I’m paying top money for a Tracker, because that’s what the insurance company insisted on. But I have a £30 jobby on another vehicle & it works perfectly.

As above I'd highly recommended the Ghost immobiliser. Think the latest version is now recognised by a number of insurers.

Just dug out my invoice details - the Tracker - Locate, installed and three years subscription upfront was £756.

Prior to getting the T6.1, I had a Range Rover Sport. The insurance company required a Thatcham 5 tracker and I opted for the Vodafone service. It was reasonably priced from an annual fee perspective but I can’t recall what the installation fee was.
I found the service was very good and they were very prompt to contact me whenever I forgot to take the fob with me. The app on the iPhone worked well too.

Further to above, one of my mates now works for Tracker. There are advantages as I understand it, particularly that it uses VHF instead of cellular Comms and this is not as easily jammed.

Really good advice!

Thanks everyone, I’m just really looking forward to getting the van now. I’m realising the more you get into this the more you could spend. Couldn’t believe the price of led lights! Also can’t wait for next year and a few trips and hopefully some shows. See you there.

I have not told my better half the true cost of all the mods to our van! lol.
