One for people in the know..............

Is there any satellite based internet providers other than StarLink that people can recommend?

I live in the sticks and currently getting by on 4G and we only have copper broadband in the area which offers around 2mb. Im getting 20/30gb via my 4G router on Vodafone but its coming up for renewal next month so would like something faster.

Starlink want to charge me £75 per month, £299 for hardware and also, just to rub it in, a congestion charge of £195

Unless you have corporate amounts of cash to access stuff like Eutelsat services then Starlink is the only game in town for the moment.

Amazon Kuiper is due to reach initial capacity within a few weeks (the first launch was delayed by weether at the launch site) and full capacity by next summer, and is claimed (for what it's worth) to be higher speed than Starlink. The glimpses of the gear shown so far show it to be more compact than Starlink and they've said (again, for what its worth) prices will be lower.

Amazon have certain legally mandated milestone dates set by the FCC as part of their licence conditions so we can be reasonably assured it will will be up and running by the milestone dates they've announced.

When it arrives that might trigger a bit of a price war with Starlink, so it'll come down to whether you prefer you Bond villain level megalomaniacs to be slavering loons or completely bald.

Personally anyone who challenges a weakling like Mark Zuckerberg to a cage fight and then backs out when the challenge is accepted isn't worthy of my hard earned.

We have a Starlink mini system (we use in campervan) that I bought second hand (bit of a pain to sort it out, but starlink did it all). Here in Spain we do have great wifi coverage at home and around local area, but sim card data is not cheap here. We switch off Starlink unlimited roaming untill we need it and they are fine with that. Whilst in Ireland/UK last year we used loads of GB's watching TV, camera's in campervan security etc and it never failed (average downlaod 150mb/upload20mb) I would say we saved around £100+ on data sims, camp site wifi (that was crap with so many using it) and peace of mind that campervan was safe..
Granted the kit is not cheap, but I would still recommend it none the less as you can switch it off and on.

We are off it Italy end of May for 2/3 months and I worked out data sims are just silly prices there.

Because of that SILLY £195 congestion charge Starlink are asking you for (£75 is not bad for unlimited data side) I would leave it!!!!! I would also bin Vodafone contract and check out other service providers as they will have better deals.

Good luck.

Yeah to be honest I probably would've ordered the kit if the additional £195 wasnt on there, just think it takes the pi...... a bit
