Startline Steering Wheel Upgrade

the cables go into the loom that i think you can only access when the wheel is off - so the loom that is under the plastic thats lifted up in your pic with no wheel on. Once the wheel is off you need to pull out the white tab and then release the loom (i had to jiggle it around as it was blocked by sth to the side - i thought sth was going to snap!) and then you get to see where to plug in the cables.

As you've changed airbag, im not sure your horn will work until you've coded it..

That device looks like the Carista one I own. I don’t think I can do what I need with carista though.

My horn works even though not coded. No air bag errors either. I just don’t have illumination or use of the buttons. I’ll sort it next week when I’m back. Need to wire that up and also wire in my dash cam

ah ok, good stuff! I wired the bcm first and fed the cables up (protecting the ends to not cause any possible probs) the steering column. Then when i had enough time i took the wheel off and finished the cabling.

ah i dont know carista. with obd you can do long coding, like vcds.. but the mfsw is dead easy just a checkbox..

Thanks for the info @scotia. I’ll see if I can get someone to code it first for less than £80 but at least I know that’s an option

I know this has been covered before many times, l can't find a definitive answer in the posts. If you have a plastic startline wheel, no cruise etc and want a leather wheel, what are the best options without spending big money.
I have seen a mfsw with blanks to cover the controls, or do you just fit one thats complete and just use the volume buttons with a new wire... .?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a startline so im interested in the feedback you recieve as i'd like to upgrade mine too

Wouldn't the Startline wheels look better given to one of the custom wheel companies and done how you want, rather than fitting a Highline wheel with blanking plates?

Has anyone upgraded a startline wheel? Answer's on a postcard please and send it to....... The T6 forum, Interiors, Seating, Lining, P. O Box - www.interweb.
I look forward to seeing your answers :)

Thank you

After a bit of help please,
I've got a Startline which I've fitted a Polo flat bottom wheel with multi function buttons on, I've got two wires kindly sorted for me by Pauly and I know I need to pick up LinBus and +12V but only guide i can find for this is for a T5.1 which has different wiring.
Before I go ahead and start pulling the van apart does anyone know if there is a T6 guide or where to connect these two cables from and too?
Any help is appreciated..057.JPG

Hey @xpfloyd have you looked into changing your dash display? I notice you have the same as me. I'm more interested in changing that than the steering wheel. Just wondering.

Hi @Sabre , I havent looked into that as the current one does everything I need. I have set it up so that it shows the digital speed now and it has the mpg etc so I dont want to spend the money on the upgrade (if there is one?)

No it’s not them, they are the same as the ones we well in the shop and are for extra speakers in back of radio or populating a spare fuseway etc
I have the correct crimps but they are very small and do not fit in a standard non insulated crimp tool, I would rather send you a couple leads made up unless you specifically want just the crimps, or you can get the correct repair wire to join onto ?

Hi Pauly. Are you able to make these cables generally available? I've had a look at your shop but can't see anything like it.

Hi all, fairly new to the forum, and to the t6! Hopefully this is the correct place to ask... If replacing the standard startlne steering wheel with a mfsw with cruise control buttons, would cruise control work without any other changes? The van doesn't have cruise as it stands. I assume cruise is a separate entity but thoughts I'd ask the question, cheers
