T32 4motion All Terrain 235/55 R18

Hi all,

Sorry for another tyre question.

I have All Terrain 235/55 R18 tyres on my T32 4motion. Currently have the original spare which is a lot smaller. Options are:

Buy the same wheel and tyre - ideally I would not do this.

Or

Fit 215/65 R17 normal road tyre to the spare steel. Would this be close enough in size for the 4motion to get me to garage/home?

Thanks

If you need to buy a tyre maybe consider a suitable 235/60 R17
Apparently this size will fit in spare wheel carrier and is virtually the same diameter as your 235/55 R18s.

I am also running running Yokohama 235/55 R18 AT tyres on a T32 4Motion, but I can't find a recommended tyre pressure anywhere. What tyre pressures would you recommend?

2019 199bhp VW T6 Caravelle Executive 4Motion Rear Diff Lock, my vehicle was equipped with 255/45R18 and I changed to BFG 255/55R18 KO2 AT. I found a tyre comparison site on the www put all the required requested details into appropriate box's original tyre, replacement tyre, size, load rating, everything and it gave a new tyre pressure for the new tyres. In my case the new tyres have substantially lower pressure than the original fit tyres. This suited me perfectly.

I run the same size, albeit on a 2wd T28 with 300kg of camper conversion permanently on board, and after some experimentation found 43/45psi suited mine nicely.

As its a non standard size it's a case of finding a pressure in the ballpark and seeing what suits your vehicle, it's typical load, and your preferences for ride quality, steering feels, etc.

For a light load on the original 215/60R17 tyres recommended 56 front and 47 rear. For heavy load it was 58/58. The online Tire Pressure Calculator app puts 47 psi on 215/60R17 as 37 psi on 235/55 R18. The converter doesn't give a figure for 56 psi and the relationship is not linear, but it is probably mid to low 40's. The sidewall of the Geolandar tyres says "never inflate beyond 40 psi to seat beads". I don't know if this is just when fitting the tyre or also includes when running the tyre. Honestly, I am uncertain what pressure to use. Currently I am using 40/40 psi, but feel it should be higher when fully loaded.
