Wheels arrived on time. The fitter did a “dry” fit without the tyres and the wheel was more than close to the inner wheel arch (rear). Too close for me.
Front looked good.

Conclusion: I drive now 8.5x19 Wolfrace Munich GTR in gloss black .
Why now 19 and not 20? The price. Got the full set with Michelin Cross Clima 2 (255/45) for 1K new fitted.

I’m also interested in your comments . I’ve never had an issue with wheel arches running 20’s and a full CRS lowered set up.

Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures to document it.

Upon inspection, I noticed that the wheel without the tire was positioned no more than 5mm away from the inner wheel arch liner when the suspension was uncompressed.
We checked both sides thoroughly to ensure that there were no issues with the liner and confirmed that the van hasn’t been involved in any accidents.

While it might have been sufficient to drive under those conditions, the clearance felt a bit too tight for my comfort.

I was looking forward to fit the wheels because I really like the design.

Ok, i'm not a suspension specialist but I would assume that with the vehicle in the air, the 'dry' fitment would not have given a true reflection of how the wheel would sit with a tyre under load. For every vehicle I have had on a ramp, the wheels tend to bow inwards due to the bushes and links/arms contracting having no weight to bear - again that would be my assumption.

Shame as we've sold hundreds with that very fitment for 4 years or more and it's such a great fitment on the Transporter!

Thanks for the reply anyway, and maybe consider us in the future when you get bored of the Wolfrace! I'll do you a 'forum deal' on a set of 20's ;)
 
You´re absolutely right.
I´m aware how the links under the car work and I´m sure with load it would have looked different.
I just thought that with the tyre adding more bulk even the added clearance would have helped a lot.

I know plenty of people drive 10Jx20 on the T6 without much modification. I was just a bit too scared :)

I have the Pop top this month and I would like to get the seats re-trimmed before Christmas, need to have a look into my bank account next year :cool:
 
I quite fancy a set of Calibre Fives, as they are load rated for the T32 (the VI Performance five spoke isn't), but if I was being picky I'd like ET45 9J which the Calibres aren't

I was lucky to come across some of the last OZ Racing Monaco HLTs. 19x9, load rated, ET50 with 5mm front and 15mm rear spacers. Not looking bad for four years old.
Apologies, hadn’t noticed centre cap upside down and my 275/40 19s looking a little undersized, now half worn!

An additional note about Rial x10x less than a year on….
If the other driver of the van, despite claiming that we don’t need the lack rim blades because they “never hit kerbs” and “the tyres are so big the rims will never hit a kerb”, grinds the kerb anyway, they CAN be repaired at home.

After watching a million videos etc and worried about the satin black paint match I decided to spray rather than touch up.

I sanded the damage using 600 then 1200 paper, progressing down the wheel as little as possible. I then sprayed acid etch primer into a lid and just paintbrushed any areas where the sanding showed the bare metal to avoid having to cover lots of grey. The primer got a run down and another coat.

Then careful masking with rollled tape to feather into the original paint and a bin bag stuffed into the wheel and around the arch only exposing the edge of the rim being sprayed (sorry no pics of this- too engrossed in the task!)

3 coats of Halfords satin black spray- very light spraying with no lacquer because they would come out gloss. The finish is just about perfect, the match with the Halfords paint is excellent.

2 very happy people! The paint on the rial alloys is really thick by the way so nice to know!

Success was down to loads of careful sanding and sneaky masking.

A good repair job! Have you kept these 235 tyres on? I've just bought x10x wheels and am torn between the slightly lower price of the 235 and the potential for extra wheel rim protection from a 255 width. The rim does look a little exposed in your photos. Mine is only T28 so was going for 235/50/18/101 Michelin CC2.

Yes, I kept the tyres on and I have repaired all of the alloys at one stage or another now!!!

Just about to replace 2 of the tyres- I rotated them as the front obviously get more wear than the rear and 2 are looking a bit rough on the edges albeit still ok in the centres. If I was doing all 4 tyres I think I'd buy Hankook Kinergy 4S as they are on my car (A6 3.0TDI Quattro) and show very little wear but since it's just 2 I'm gonna match them.

Can't remember why I didn't go for the 255 width, they may not have been available in the load rating?

That's after 30,000+ miles so wear pretty good on the Michelin.

Its probably been answered numerous times so apologies in Advance.

Im running the Wolfrace ASSASSIN 20 inch rims which I love (8.5 inch wide). They came fitted with 275 35 r20 102Y rubber which I've been running for the past 6 years across numerous tyres.

I've moved To Australia 18 months back and have taken the T6 with me. the fitters out here are saying the 102Y are under rated for insurance purposes and the 275's listed above top out at that 102 load rating.

Is there anything stopping me going to a 265 that can rate up to 104? Its a bit confusing because if you go to any tyre website they list a maximum 255 on an 8.5 inch wide rim.

So now im confused. Been running underrated 275's on rims that should have a max 255 width? Does that make sense?

What load rating is your T6?
If it’s a T32 you would need tyres rated at least 103.
There should be a ratings sticker under the bonnet, near the bulkhead above and behind the air filter housing.
If it states Axle 1 - 1710kg and Axle 2 - 1720kg it’s a T32.
A 102-rated tyre is up to 850kg. So, maximum 1700kg per axle.
Wheels should also be rated at 860kg minimum. Often found moulded onto the inside of the wheels.

Wheels are rated fine and yes its a T32. I believe the 275 size in anything over a 102 is the issue. Might drop back to a 265.
 
I have a T32 Bilbo Nexa Camper van with 215/60 R17 Contivan as supplied by Bilbo.
The ride is bit harsh. Can anyone recommend a change of tyres to improve comfort?
