T6.1 LED high beam signal feed for auxiliary lights (led bar)?

Can confirm the Amarok piggy back plug does not line up with the T6.1 (Stedi on the left)

So today we connected the CanM8 Cannect- reader to BCM. As said before, the CAN-HI was taken from BCM. Its was the green wire. the CAN-LOW was orange.

Pulled the feed wire next to the battery from behind the battery, there are 2 grommets in a perfect location for this on LHD T6.1

The T6.1 OEM LED's are Can controlled, so the power output is too low for regular relays to detect. The Canm8 cannect produces a solid feed that you can take into a normal relay and it works just fine.
Hey @Petro, that's some great info there, thank you! Just got a few questions:

How did you remove the battery? And what issues do you have afterwards?

Can you go into some more detail about the 2 grommets and routing the additional light cabling through?

Where did you mount the relay and CAN reader?

You remove the battery by loosening/removing the bracket in the front of it held by 1 bolt, also the busbar/fuses on the top of the battery need to come off, but it just click in.

In my post you can see the 2 grommets (blue arrows) that I run a small feed cable from the CAN-reader to the relay. I mounted the CAN-reader close to the BCM with a ziptie, as its a really small box. The relay is just mounted next to the battery, I screwed it to the plastic divider next to the battery if i recall.

My light bar is flush mounted to the grill, so the aux light cable is simply routed from the relay, under the headlight into the grill. Theres plenty of room in there.

Thanks Petro! When you connect the battery back in, what things did you need to reset?

Nothing at all. I disconnected the battery 15mins before doing anything to the car, to let it dissipate the remaining electricity from the system.

Thanks Petro! That's great news.

Can I ask what part of the dash did you need to remove to get to the BCM? And could you share any tips on how to remove the dash trim?

My van is Left hand drive, and the BCM was on the drivers side. I took the trim off from under the dash, the part where the under dash light is located. The BCM is kind of behind that panel, sort of behind/next to streering rack in a plastic holder. It is held by some plastic tabs. The under dash panel, it just pulls off when you pull it downwards, its also just held with tabs. Im sure there are helpful videos of getting to the BCM in youtube, and helpful photos here in the forum if you search.

In the old T6 you could get the feed for auxiliary lights from the LED's and probably halogen too from the wiring harness behind headlight unit. However, the T6.1 has much fewer wires coming to the LED headlight. Anyone know can you get the feed from one of these, or how is it done on the T6.1?
I’m just about to fit a light bar to a T6.1 that has
Halogen lights, there’s 8 wires connected to the back of the light so I’m wondering if I can use the piggy back loom that’s used on the Amarok ?

The T6.1 LED - has CAN right to the Headlamp unit. + power and ground.

The T6.1 H7 Halogen - has more traditional wire connections.

Hi hope you do t mind me jumping in here but I can’t access the T6.1 H7 wiring diagram, I take it I can get a traditional 12v relay signal to switch additional lighting (main beam) I’ve not tested yet but am I right thinking driver side main beam wire colour is white?

Just poke your circuit tester into each pin until the right one lights up.

Hi,
After doing a number of searches on the forum and online i am writing this post.
I have just upgraded to a MY23 transporter after owning a 2011 T5 for the last 6 years.
The van is amazing but it's taking a bit of getting used to as it's a bit harder to understand than the older model.
I've just tried to wire a light bar and have found that the headlight type is no longer H7 or H4- I've asked the mechanic and he has never seen it. Apparently i've got one of the first MY23 transporters in Australia.
Does anyone know what the new headlight type is called?
Any help appreciated.

Perhaps H15?
