T6.1 oil level warning: Reduce Oil Level!

I've the same issue. My van went in for the Boden cable recall issue and I took the opportunity to have the oil service carried out at the same time, this was in early Jan. It's been an issue ever since - a couple of remeasures / oil changes, a replacement sensor and a software update - all to no avail. The warning comes on without fail at exactly 100km driven after each reset (lifting the bonnet cab be used as a reset, and the 100km count will start again, which is the duration that needs to be driven for the sensor to then do it's check... as I understand it.). The van centre are a bit of a loss and have asked me to leave the issue with them whilst they speak with VW..

I got my van updated yesterday, with the software update. So far so good,
I contacted vw customer care who told me it was available.
Vw liverpool contacted me direct to book in

I used to reset mine, and after a short drive the light would come back on.

Is this update now widely available?
Picked up my late 2020 T6.1 110 today and 60 miles later on the drive home got this warning.

I think I will give VW Assist a call in the morning and get it to my local dealer then.
Not great for 3 hours ownership.

I contacted VW customer care who told me about the update being available, as I was getting nowhere with the dealership. (Apart from free oil changes)
But mine is a 110 T6.1 so the update should be ready for yours too,

I’ll try them then.

Feedback
2nd longish journey light came on again but went out then reappeared
On way back came on again went out and stayed out
Due to low mileage believe the diesel in oil is a red herring as there is no way I’ve switched it off enough to add anything near the volume of diesel needed to set off warning
Believe it’s purely oil expansion and a sensitive sensor
Had oil level reduced slightly and not seen light again
Safe driving

Well, van went in to VW for the update.
Less than 100 miles and the warning light was back on again, reset it by opening bonnet and once again the warning is back.
Oil level is normal and the same as when it was picked up from the dealer after the “fix”.
Anyone had the same issue after the update?

Some interesting points made in this video, of course may be of no help to those who have been 60 miles around the houses so to speak on this issue with VW

Yes but not had it come on again after removing some oil

My 21 plate T6.1 went into the local dealer on Monday, they said they weren't aware of the issue and that my van's software is all up to date. They checked the oil level and confirmed that it was overfilled (pretty much accusing me of topping it up too much!) and they wanted to charge me for removing the oil to the correct level as it's not warranty work. I asked if I had a magic van that can generate its own oil and would it be possible to upgrade it to generating its own diesel.

I have zero faith in the dealer, the van was also in for audio 'noise' to be investigated (when using Apple Car Play), told me it was the USB cable and they had given me a new one - went to the van to find a USB-A cable left on the dash. Seemed rather sheepish when I went back in to ask for the USB-C version - clearly they tested it, right?..

Re the oil level too high, does anyone know what version number the software should be updated to? Does anyone have official details from VW, confirming that this is a known issue?

Not seen this on VW but heard of diesel getting into the sump when re-genning due to it washing past the rings when altering the injection cycle. That can make the level rise as it dilutes the oil. Silly question, did you or the AA person sniff the dipstick?

alternatively a faulty sensor?
Your oil is being diluted with diesel from a regeneration not being finished. Very common fault with this engine. I’ve had no end of hassle with this my T6 has been back in my local VW specialist 7 times now, they had it for a week one time. Now admitting there’s nothing more they can do until VW come out with a new software update. Bloody nightmare!

My ones the same, told i can’t do short journeys in it. Had a 80 mile run none stop & on comes the reduce oil level now just before i got home.
Hi guys.
Has anyone had any updates on this? Or had their issue fixed?
I have emailed VW customer care again and today they have replied stating … there is no issues , and no recalls or updates required for my van.
It is becoming tedious now.
They reset my warning light a few weeks ago, and during a 35mile motorway trip the light came back on again.

Hi - urgent advice needed! Picked up my 2019 VW Shuttle almost a week ago. Bought it from a dealer but not a VW dealer. They serviced it (oil & filter) before handover. Yesterday I got an ‘oil level too high’ warning. Contacted them and took it in today. They acknowledged there was 0.5litres too much oil in the engine. They drained and have put new oil & filter. Should I be worried re engine / cat damage? I’ve only done about 200 miles since pick up and the warning only came on (in total with the miles to take it back in today) about 30 miles ago. What do people think? Cheers, Mike
Did you get it sorted out? I’ve the same problem.

Mines been all sorted after the software upgrade. I mainly do short journeys in my t6.1 and not had any issues every since

Mine went back to VW on Wednesday, they told me there was a new update available as the original update didn’t fix the issue.
They tried to perform the update but there were issues with it completing so it’s got to go back again in 2 weeks time.

The service chap told me it’s now an issue with the Caddy.
They are getting a fair few in because of it, there was another chap collecting his California that was in for the same issue.

Got mine back from VW specialist (Elgin) on Friday had an oil change & forced regen & surprise surprise it’s back on after one journey 61 miles.
