@Polzeylad Perhaps VW Commercial Vehicles would be kind enough to define EXACTLY what the standards are that their vehicles meet to drive on UK roads particularly in respect of the H4 bulbs. A question for VW is "Do you carry out random quality checks of H4 bulbs from suppliers to ensure the light output meets the specification required by your contracts?"
@Polzeylad it would appear from VW CV CCTeam's insistence on dealing with the lighting issue that you have kindly raised on behalf of members of the T6 Forum on an individual basis denotes a certain caution about the possibility of a Class Action. Perhaps this will make VW CV sit up, take notice, realise that there is an issue to be examined and do something about it.. The owners on this site who have voiced dissatisfaction with the H4 lighting can't all be wrong, surely?
Ok here goes my two penny's worth at VW prior to actually owning my vehicle.
"Meets minimum standards", I suppose that this is the same standard that they adhere to in the design process that allows them to get away with manufacturing a vehicle in such a way, that when the OEM tow bar is fitted, it obscures the number plate!, and you can't move the letters on the number plate, as that becomes illegally spaced!
I spoke to the vw commercial assistance guy about it today. (When my van had an ickle problem)
He said he'd not heard anything about them but to be fair I think this was the 2nd t6 he'd been out to with the Euro 6 engine.
He suggested taking it to a dealer to see what's what.
Sorry, didn't mean a T6, just cars in general, they appear to get away with whatever they want, as if you look at some cars, the tow bar obscures the number plate, if you or I designed it, it wouldn't be allowed!
Just to be clear the ones in the shop are standard xenon white lamps and not led, easy to fit as there is an access hatch inside wheel arch, put steering on full lock and it moves tyre out of way and you can see the oval access hatch directly in front of wheel, wires/connector pulls off and lamp twists and comes out, give me 5 minutes and i will change the price in the shop as they are wrong, managed to get a better price on them now
I'll sign too. From a safety point of view.....I see too many walkers / runners without reflectives and on wrong side of road and lost in hedgerows, poor lighting as discussed is wrong.
So not being a Facebook user how do i register my feelings on the absolutely appalling H4 light units on my T6 Fuelled greatly by my trip home the other night from Swanage it was bad enough in the summer but in the winter when the lights are covered in traffic film and dried salt it was almost impossible five times i had to pull over to clean the lights just to give me some chance of getting home safely And i dont believe that i am over exaggerating either even the wife who normally falls asleep on journeys longer than 25 miles asked if the lights were on Needless to say she stayed awake all the way home this time
Hi @Paul Morley, see the response from VW CV Customer Care Team above and go in to your VW Dealer and make a formal complaint about the H4 light output as you have here and request that they check both the output and adjustment. If you are not satisfied with their response then write a formal Letter Of Complaint to VW CV Customer Care Team detailing your issues. The postal address should be the same as that of HQ VW Commercial Vehicles
Thanks for your reply having had the adjustment checked i have decided to go straight to the customer care team detailing all my issues with these lights Lets see what the response is if i get a reply i will keep the forum updated in the meantime i am hoping other members will do the same
Do you have the address of the customer care team? Every time I get in the van at night I remember just how bad the lights are. Constantly thinking they're off.
