So I thought I'd start a thread rather than cluttering up other non related threads or for sale threads.
Who has got them and where did they come from and what are your experiences?
I know there are some installers who are installing THQ units, there's a few sellers on Ebay that have them listed and then there seems to be something similar that comes direct from Aliexpress?

I thought you had oem ready to fit?
I do, but I'm faffing about making up the looms, installing the self levelling and coding when I finally get around to fitting. If this option looks good and works well I may save myself the stress.

Persevere with it mate, i would especially as you have most of the parts. They look so good and if i had the funds i would go oem 100%

I'll keep you posted on the Ali Express lights (that are the Gbrite i expect)

Excellent.
I also really want to change the lenses on the units I have. So just another complication.

Interesting to hear what the AliExpress will be like but I still think OEM will be better.

The joyous Daily Mail are trying to raise the focus on dodgy headlights!

Me too hence why i would go that route funds permitted.

Not sure i'll take much notice of what a news paper says because we all believe what's written in there :slow rofl:

There’s a lot of bad headlights around. I have a feeling some of the worst beam patterns come out of standard reflectors with a led bulb stuffed in there. The joy of driving towards and older beemer with flickering badly adjusted led lights will only draw attention to this.

I think that authorities may well tighten up on regulation of headlamps and bulbs, There is a pressure group that has existed for years, not sure what they call them selves. Going on quite successfully more recently. They have had tv representation and parliamentary contact. Thy have a special interest because they claim a medical condition that affects their eyes. Usually they go on about lights being too bright but also about illegal fitments. I think that they do have some grounds. Any pressure group or parliamentarian with special interest only has to look at these pages and possibly hundreds of other forum to easily see what is going on. It would be only a matter of parliamentary time and influence as to weather it would be looked at and more legislation with enforcement. The same might apply to emission control systems I guess. Prosecutions might bring in additional revenue, something that is very popular these days. I am talking about illegal fitments and not fitment of legal equipment especially OEM.

Completely agree….i have been subjected to some dodgy lights at night

I have them fitted and they are way better than the THQ ones i've had previously. They are RHD and as far as MOT i can't see why they would not pass....never had issues with THQ with a HID kit.

Good to hear you got them fitted in the end.
No dramas with fitting or loom hiccups?

V interested. Please would you give us some more details Pewt?
  • Any loom work needed or plug and play?
  • Are they configurable in any way electronically?
  • Does the levelling dial still work?
  • Are there the relevant stamps or marks? I’m not sure what they would be for headlights.

  • Any loom work needed or plug and play? Simple plug and play
  • Are they configurable in any way electronically? No, they do a little dance when you turn the ignition on
  • Does the levelling dial still work? Yes but in the opposite way ....only negative i can fond with them but in no way would stop me buying them
  • Are there the relevant stamps or marks? I’m not sure what they would be for headlights.. If you mean legal stamps, TBH i've not looked
