T6 Resale Market?

Hi all,

Looking to buy my first T5 / T6

Are panel vans expensive at the moment?

I've seen a thread about campers being overpriced but not sure what I should be paying for a basic van ready to convert, and if they are overpriced at the moment

Looking at 2016 T6's. What roughly should a 2016 T28 102 with 50k cost and have prices risen since last year?

Thanks for any help. Not sure if best to wait a while or take the plunge
I’d say go for it.... life’s too short to wait! Just get the newest/best van you can afford for your budget. Start with a good solid base and have some fun doing some of the basic stuff yourself, like sound deadening and insulating. Anything you’re not confident to tackle yourself, seek out a specialist and have it done right. Check out the @BognorMotors thread on the forum.... you might find some inspiration or the van for you from there! Good luck and welcome!

Thanks both,
Looking to do a lot myself as a bit of a project and hopefully come in less than buying a converted van.

So many options on even the base vehicle so lots to learn.
Hard to know what I want until I have one so may rent one out for a week

Just wasn't sure if prices are massively inflated at the moment even on van

I've seen one for 19k. 50k T28 102 SWB 2016 Barndoors Highline in grey. Not sure if this is good enough spec though

I'll have a look through some threads and try and get my head around the options :)

Welcome to the forum.

I agree with everything @DaveD said above.

Price isn’t the only consideration even though it is an important one! I saw in another thread Oli from @BognorMotors say that the ex-fleet base models he looks to source for conversion now have a 20% price increase! That’s a really hard hit for an independent business to take even if “a rising tide lifts all boats.” I would suggest you have a conversation with him and bounce some ideas around! He might point you in the direction of people up your way.

Highline will be good spec and grey is a very popular colour!?

For what it’s worth I managed to get a resonance deal from a dealer - come with two free services and basically popped in to the ones near me and described what I needed and price - unfortunately a strong market so they sell quickly so build a rapport with the dealers if getting one from there and keep in touch with them

Our family run a commercial business. Vans in general across all makes have increased 20-35% in some cases.
Auction houses must be making a mint.
My advice, don't rush into buying one that isn't what you wanted spec wise. Hold out and then pounce when the one arises!

Starting with such a price increase must crucify you!

This is all great news for me, I'm selling my van in a few months when I can get a clearer date of arrival for my new T6.1.

Drive a few vans with different engines, IMO avoid 84ps as underpowered. Also check manual and DSG, DSG are generally more expensive.
The more power the higher the fuel consumption, if you’re planning on weeks long / 1000’s miles touring then the extra fuel cost adds up.
IMO avoid mapped engines, there are warranty issues and some known reliability problems.
I have a Euro 5, 2016 MY which has been problem free, no EGR, DPF regeneration or Adblue. Obviously inner city emission restrictions are going to get tighter affecting Euro 5 before Euro 6.
The H4 headlights are crap, it’s possible to get good aftermarket or standard H7 for a few hundred quid.
Tailgate or barn doors; tailgate fetch higher prices and offer some shelter when open. Barn doors are better in tight parking spots.
SWB or LWB; if you have kids and enough space to park you may want the extra space` of a LWB.
IMO AC is important, I wouldn’t consider a van without AC.
If you get a Kombi there will be approx £1000 re-sale for the rear seat, belts, rubber mat etc.
Single or twin slider door; twin sliders can pose problems to some converters. Most camper conversions are single slider.
Like others have said get the best van you can afford as it will retain more value. IMO prove the van for a few thousand miles before pouring time and money into a conversion. Nothing worse than spending hard earned cash on a lemon.
Needless to say keep some funds back for the conversion.
Good luck

I did much the same. I am more than happy with my T28 102bhp Highline bought through SMG Croydon.
Keep an eye on Used Vans & Commercial Vehicles for Sale | VWCV
It gives you an idea of what's around, and other van dealers will set their prices against this.

Strangely enough, customers pay the increase.
We’ve had stock at 12 months old, go or have plenty of enquiries on. You just can’t get a hold of good stock at minute. Any business with a big cash flow or overdraft is buying stock in. And setting their own prices to suit demand!

You still have a dpf and it still does regens on euro 5.
I dont believe my Euro 5 has done a regen yet in 24k miles. Or I've never noticed it, and it should be pretty obvious when it is. I'm not saying they don't I'm saying they may be very infrequent and cause a lot less trouble than the Euro6.

Edit: I've never looked but can vcds check when/if the van does a regen?

If you are doing the "right" kind of driving it is probably passively regenerating, i.e. it is getting hot enough to burn off the soot without the need for the ECU to inject extra fuel into the dpf. (active regeneration)
I have a EU5 too and I've never noticed anything to indicate any regeneration occuring, but it must be happening.

Just checked my Euro 5 180ps DPF on Carista at 44K miles, just 11g, I’ve never seen an indicated re-generation.
