T6 Resale Market?

Hi all - So I was in the process of searching for a base vehicle for a conversion at the end of 2020 and due to a variety of reasons am only now just picking it up again. And woah - the price increases are crazy. I'm guessing that's a known thing, perhaps due to covid and brexit? What's the consensus on how long these increases will last for? Obviously no one knows for sure, but do we believe things will start to return to normal, or are these more of an issue of long term industry changes and this is what we can expect from now on?

As soon as foreign holidays open up again then there'll be a glut of vans coming on to the market, and that will drive prices down.

Especially if the summer stays the way it is at the moment!!!

I've just been having a browse to see how much it would cost to buy one like mine and came across this. I know Caravelle's are a stupid amount of money, but...

My god, minus the Dcc and two tone it is broadly similar to the one I have been waiting to be built for the last 10 months. At that price I might sell straight on and look to pocket the 15k markup

ouch! I particularly love the "total price" when you scroll down to the difference finance packages!

a lot of people will find out just how good English holidays are too ... on their doorsteps .....

Just scour facebook marketplace if you want a laugh.

I saw a 120k mile 2016 T6 Panel Van advertised for £36k over the weekend!

There are some very very greedy dreamers about right now.

I think there's a few things and I doubt it's just holiday makers buying converted vans.

- Silicon chip supply issue causing massive delays on new van production (not just VW)
- Covid causing huge uplift in deliveries meaning more people looking for medium sized vans
- People with more disposable income than ever due to long periods of being locked, unspent holiday budgets etc

Clearly, some of the people trying to ship T4s for 20k on facebook are just idiots, but I doubt the used dealer prices will crash by much very soon.

It's like the housing market. If you need a van, you need a van, and the swings of the market shouldn't really matter as long as you're happy with the monthly cost. It's different if you're trying to flip vans or speculate on the market.

Who knows though...

I bought my used VW from a ford dealership earlier this year and the guy that delivered it told me that they're selling 2 year old 15-20K Transit Customs for near enough the same cost of new van after discounts so it's not just VW's!

1% price rise on new vans from 1 July 2021 - demand is far outstripping supply at the moment.
