I'm sitting in my van after it refused to start after a short journey. RAC on call but partner on way with jump leads as it may just be insufficient voltage. OBD11 says:

Maybe this has insight

Edit - good luck with it sorry. I'm sure it's a blip, hopefully an easy fix and it least it's sunday aft not monday morning. Stay positive! We're all routing for a win for ya buddy

Tried bypassing that connection with a jump lead, and tried jump starting off my wife's car with two different sets of jump leads but to no avail. Now waiting for the RAC to arrive... non-urgent case :-(

Can hear a click and whine under the bonnet when trying to start. Shame I haven't got a hammer to give the starter motor a knock. Parked on a hill so can't safely bump and try turning the starter motor

Is it manual? id be tempted to drop it in gear and let the handbrake off, just in case the starter can't engage where it currently is. a fraction of a turn of the flywheel and it might?

Yeah, I tried that but to no avail

Not what you want on a Sunday night mate, can you not get someone to give you a push and try bump starting it? Can you get to the starter? Try a wheel brace or jack bar?

RAC attended and immediately found the fault. The trigger wire to the starter had broken at the connector. Apparently common and there's a connector repair available for that part of the loom. He said the loom is tight there and, as the engine moves back and forth, it wears the wire out. Good news as he was able to push the wire into the connector and I've left it with my garage for tomorrow

Garage fixed it now but they said they had to replace a diode in a switch because you can't get the switch from VW. Can anyone think which part they replaced?
