I hope you don’t mind me posting here - I dont have any banded rims but do have two sets of steels 17s and 18s :)

Question - do any of you have problems with powdercoat on the wheel mounting face or wheel nut tapers. I’ve read on other forums this can wear away causing the wheel nut to loosen. Or does the 180nm torque rating (much higher than cars) overcome this issue?

Regards
Ian

I have never had any problems so far. I’m constantly changing wheels and steels that have been powder coated. I use those bolts with the spinning collar.. whatever they are called.

Stud conversion?

Radius seat I’ll get a picture! I have had a stud conversion before.. just didn’t trust it!

Just to add even more activity to this ever growing thread......

I posted on page 1 my van with my 9” and 9.5” banded Amaroks which have Falken Eurowinter 255 45’s on, lowered on H&R springs.

I have got on order from Jamie another set of Amaroks in 8.5” and 9” as I was wanting to get the van on SoLow’s and thought there’s no way they will work with this wide a wheel, so hopefully soon I’ll have them and will be looking at wrapping them in some new tyres which I’m undecided upon yet!

Just over a week ago to throw a spanner in the works, a shock absorber decided to shit itself, so suspension became more urgent.

Spoke immediately to Oli @BognorMotors who managed to get a set for a T32 within a week (they are not in stock anywhere) and yesterday had it all fitted and kept everything crossed that the 9”& 9.5” wheels would be ok!!

Anyway, all fitted in a day with a couple of upgrades I hadn’t intended on just yet (cough cough Revo engine and DSG remap):)

Results so far are great, I’ve had it set on max height, I think they will run like mad on the front lowered any more, but no issues rubbing so far whilst driving or turning on full lock even with these size tyres. I’ve only done 200miles and have plenty more roads to test it on yet to see if any running does occur but nothing as yet.

They tuck in much nicer with the natural camber this set up gives and it looks great.

More to the point, it’s so comfortable to drive compared to lowering springs (which were on the van when I bought it) night and day, not bumpy or crashy it’s just lovely and smooth.

As for the map, mines a 180 euro 5 sport line..... what a difference, power wise and gearbox wise, the whole van is transformed! I’m going to put a few more miles on and write a decent review on here for Oli so others can read also and some great words about his team as they were brilliant.

Anyway, enough talking, here’s some pics (very wet day so not the best but hey ho)

Yeeeeeees!! Looks fantastic! Bet that ride on those tyres and suspension is lush. Actually I know it is ;)

Told you not to go anywhere else but @BognorMotors. Can’t believe you came away with a engine map and gearbox map!! Bet all that together feels amazing! A whole new van! That’s a sweet stance on that now!

Well when in Rome.... or Bognor..... it’s been a shit year so why not! But also found out I need a service and cambelt in 2.5k:( then a new set of tyres!

But yes I am chuffed as punch with the whole lot, it’s totally transformed!

Will I prefer the wheels I have now or the half inch narrower will be the next thing! I’ve gone for a different colour too.... all to be revealed in a few weeks!

I won’t take mine anywhere else for work to be done. The guys did me a hunter wheel alignment the other. As always great service and a great bunch!
I went to THQ last time only as that’s where they fitted my SoLows, it’s pulling to the left so thought I’d get it checked out.

I’d leave it as it is! Looks great. I think the half inch will count if you go lower.. personally I’d go a little more but if I were you I’d leave it. I said to you before when mine came out of bognor it’s the best it’s driven on shocks. Also you carry weight so I’d leave alone.

Van looks and drive great now, glad you’re pleased. Looking forward to reading the detailed write up once you’ve got used to it all.
Enjoy

Just fitted these genuine VW Amarok 18” steels, banded by Dutch wheels, 8.5” front and 9.5” rear, painted in gloss black with 2 coats of clear lacquer. All have 235 45 18 97w with 6mm tread, test rode tonight before 2nd national lock down; the ride was unbelievable, even had the approval from higher management of the ride quality, high praise indeed.
