Following you round on the forum...
you know my thoughts on your van and the banded steels look! Looks fantastic.

I’m going to say it and I know everyone is going to cry about it... but those tyres look so much better stretched with that profile. Also the edge of that rim sits lovely on them!

I totally agree.
In an ideal world, i'd be running 235/40s but I need a little comfort being so low, so the 45s give that extra bounce. The fronts being 8.5s, don.t stretch sadly, and neither Michelin or Goodyear did smaller than 235s. Saying that, it gives a very obvious staggered look, which as you know, I love. The rears camber lovely and sit very wide and close to the outer arch, and the fronts tuck lovely under the arches, perfection for now.

What do you boys think of some banded 16’s? I’ve been toying with the idea for maybe next year.... they’d be much more accessible than 18” Amarok’s and if banded by Jamie in chrome like yours @Tourershine with a good quality tyre.... I don’t mind seeing a bit more tyre sidewall if it’s a good tyre?

Banded 16s look fantastic on a Swamper with big tyres, but not so good on a low van unless on air.
I'd go banded 17s, because they look amazing on a subtle low or standard height. They are just as easy to get hold of and not much more in cost, plus they sell much better 2nd hand, and they are one of my favourite styles of steel wheel and a style i'd of had if they did bigger sizes.

You must spend some money on tyres!! :D Ever thought about 225/45 95v and 235/45 98v Dunlop winter sport 5 tyres?

the RRs are going back on today!!

I use the same tyre shop and have since I was 18 years old. I'm there that often, that I often get their customers coming over to me asking tyre questions or I answer their phone whilst they are busy! There's several places I frequent that often, that this is how I naturally am with certain businesses.
You and I know we won't ever be running load rated tyres, so where I can, I try not to take the pee by going daft under our T32 ratings and 225s are just a little too under if that makes sense, even though we are under anyway. Plus not a huge Dunlop fan.

You going Chrome this time? Jamie doing them I assume.

I’m running Michelin Alpins on these current wheels and absolutely rate these tyres! I’m just about to get a new set for the RRs but I’m dropping another tyre size and not sure what to put on... Pirelli Sotto Zero or Continental winter contact. Anyone got any ideas?

I've run several winters including my previous Michelin and current Goodyear, plus Faken Eurowinter and Riken Snow, but still nothing was as good as my Minerva tyres, but they are hard to get hold of and budgets that come with the fact they can be a little noisy, but that's the only negative I found.

Your sizes will restrict your choice as you will know, but generally I'm happy with these Goodyear Vectors and previous Michelins, although they haven't seen any extreme cold yet.

I've never had any Pirelli on the basis they can be very expensive compared to my favored Goodyears.

Out of interest Paul @Tourershine, which tyre shop do you use? I’m very anal about such things and I know you’re very particular about who touches your van, so I’m sure they’d have to be good to be handling your alloys/steels?

Oadby Tyre services. I worked for the owners brother next door at Cockerells, so I've known the family for years. They are by far the cheapest for pretty much any make of tyres and that's not deliberate, I think it's more because their overheads are far lower because they own the whole site.

As for being particular, yes your right, but bare in mind its pretty normal for me to drive onto their forecourt, grab a jack and remove the wheels off my vehicles myself, plus I'd normally remove all the weights and clean up the wheels inside barrels, making their job easy.
I love these guys and went to school with John, the son who now runs the business, but they are tyre fitters at the end of the day and although they know I'm a fussy sod, they aren't strangers to scratching the odd wheel now and again, so removing as much risk as possible is advised.
John, bless him, pulled an airline a couple of years ago and knocked over my wife's new Mini wheel, damaging the face and he was too scared to tell her when she picked up the car, and texted me to tell me what he'd done. Yes he offered to pay for a full refurb, but they do so much for me, I took the responsibility myself and just rib him now and again for being scared of my wife.

When you say “island” you mean roundabout... :think smile bounce: always makes me chuckle when I hear that. Worked with a load of Scottish lads and we had this island thing.

  Yes.... roundabout is what I meant, but it’s only a painted roundabout/island thingy!

Very nice @Jayjmac.... bronze looks better than the black.... you can see more dish and detail with the bronze that was a bit lost on the black! Spot on Dude

agree 100% with this @Jayjmac, can see the detail and depth in the wheel now (that gets lost when it's black)
they looks beaut!!

I’ve also used Oadby Tyres since 1985. I used to ring around getting prices but dont bother any more they are always cheapest. The quoted price always includes everything (valves, balancing, VAT).

As Roy Walker says (said?), it's good, but it's not quite right!

For me, and of course this is just my opinion, that bronze is too flat for the red; looks like faded gold. Needs more pop. Just my two-penneth. Flame suit on!

Edit: it's testament to the red though; a duller colour (like starlight, or indium) would look amazing
