Ok, so I’ve been loitering (with intent) on this thread for sometime now.... months in fact! This is mainly due to the fact that I’ve always been a big fan of banded steel wheels and this goes back to the early 1990’s when I had a proper old Beetle.

At the time I was happy with my van, I’d got the suspension done recently, it was sitting on 20” alloys that I was happy with, so I was pretty much sorted.... then boom! One Friday evening in late November I was relaxing with a couple of beers after a busy week at work and this flashed up in front of my eyes....VW Amarok 18" Steel Wheels - T6 Forum Group Buy Offer.... this was an opportunity that I couldn’t miss! As I’m sure all of you will know, Chris and his new business The Van Cave had secured a full pallet of genuine VW Amarok steels, eight sets of wheels that he was offering to the forum at a very reasonable price.... I got straight on to Chris to secure a set!

Since then, my wheels have been with Jamie at Duchy Banded Wheels, where he’s been working his magic on them and they finally landed with me this morning!

Without wanting to sound like a right brown nose, I’d like to say a big thank you to a few forum members for their help along this journey....
@ChrisR firstly for getting hold of the wheels and the group sale, then shipping them on to DBW!
@Andysmee who let me have some genuine wheel bolts that were no longer any use to him!
@Radford1071s for the as new wheel caps!
@Tourershine.... the biggest thanks go to this man, one of the founding members of this brotherhood.... Paul arranged a group deal with Jamie at DBW and has always helped with advice and answering questions.... he’s also sorted me with some tyres at his regular tyre shop!

I’ll obviously get some pictures up as soon as I can when I’ve had the tyres fitted and they’re on the van, but for now here’s a little taster.... I was warming them up with the underfloor heating before I gave them a good coat of Super Resin Polish!

Cheers, Matt:thumbsup:

Well done Matt. You bit the bullet in the end! When will you have they tyres on? What spec steels did you choose and what tyres have you gone for, even that’s a mission!!

Most of us know, but if anybody doesn’t, this man @Radford1071s is your go to man for steel wheel centre caps.... they’re like brand new, come very well packaged and sent first class! Thanks Paul

Thanks @DWS! Should have the tyres on in the week sometime, but probably won’t get the chance to fit the wheels until the weekend. Specs on the steels are 8.5” fronts and 9.5” rears in smoked chrome. I originally asked Jamie for BMW Ferric Grey, but changed my mind over Christmas to smoked chrome.... and when I saw your pictures last weekend I knew I’d made the right choice. Choosing the right colour though has not been easy.

Tyres I’ve gone for Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5 255/45R18 103Y all round

Look great! Jamie is doing me another set in 8.5 & 9.5, having had a wider rear and going to 9”
I definitely prefer a slightly wider and deeper dish, so I shall call my current set winter mode! I’m also thinking about another colour I know he’s not done before as he’s saying no.......at the moment!!

On the BMW ferric grey, I’ll have an idea on what that looks like compared to smoked chrome as the set I’ve removed are being refurbished I just that, I will be selling them on though, but can be nosey before they go!!

I have those tyres on our BMW X5, be nice to see how they look on these steels of yours!

Yeah it’d be interesting to compare the Ferric Grey with the Smoked Chrome.... my only concern with the ferric grey was that they might look a bit too light against the reflex silver and then end up just looking like dirty silver (if you know what I mean)!? Oh and nothing wrong with a slightly wider rear my friend!

Hello everyone,
I'm new on the forum. Recently bought a 2007 transporter. I'm looking planning to get 8,5/9 amaroks with 255/55R18 but keeping standard suspension and maybe lifting in the future. Does anyone have photos of a similar set up? around here I only see lowered vans and sportier tires. Has anyone experienced rubbing or fitting problems?
THANK YOU

Genuine question as mine arrive soon, but I was planning to do the Super Resin Polish after the wheels were balanced? I thought I read @Tourershine said about wipes before and resin after somewhere?

Yeah I’m sure you’re right @BrenR, but as I had the time I wanted to make sure the whole wheel was covered. I wiped them all down first to make sure they were clean/degreased and let the steel warm up before I put the SPR on. I can’t see any harm in doing it before the tyres.... I’m sure I’ve read other members have ceramic coated theirs before tyre fitting

Picking up on topic of sealing the gap between the wheel barrel and the rim. It's been said black wheels have been sealed with black silicone, but other colours can't be sealed due to lacking a colour match. But has anyone contemplated or attempted using a bead of clear silicone? If forced deep into the gap with as much of the excess removed as possible I think it may work and be durable.

I had a set in black that had a black bead, the silicone lost its colour over time and stood out a bit, didn’t bother me too much but would some people I’m sure, they are being refurbished at the moment, and what a b*****d it is to get off!!! My current set in smoked chrome don’t have a bead in the gap.

Afternoon Everyone, I,m after some tyre advice please.
I have a T6 T28 lowered all the way down at front (70mm) and 55mm at back due to heavy ass of my full conversion
On Monotube Projekt komfort Coilovers (eibach/koni)
I have 20" Staggered 8.5/10 on 255/40 Falken Azenis.
No rubbing anywhere and has 15mm of arch gap.
I have just ordered some Banded Steels off Jamie at Duchy in 9/9.5 18"in Aluminium Silver.
Now the question is what size tyres do I fit ?
I want to keep the arch gap as small as I can .
My thoughts are
235/50 front & 245/50 rear
245/50 all round
Obviously I don,t want them to catch/rub and they have to be over 101 load rated .
The usual choice of 255/45 people seem to be using will leave a larger arch gap
All help and advice much appreciated

Hi @DaveBowden74 have you looked at the website willtheyfit.com? Using their ‘calculator’ if you go from a 255/40/20 to a 235/50/18, you’ll lose about 20mm in diameter, so you’ll increase your arch gap by about 10mm. I’m sure it’ll depend on your choice of tyre manufacturer too.... they’re bound to vary slightly?
