Top-dash cig-socket removal?

Hi Bootsam, I took the cup holder out and took this photo behind the speedo. Are you saying its fused in there somewhere? I still cannot get the bloody thing out.

No that cable wrap doesn't look like the one installed in lower dash, its that 5mm thick generic foam. Plus its a square white connector block.

But I feel your pain as the black/white plastic bit at top of cig lighter gives all the impression of being able to be dismantled easily. Took me ages trying to figure it out before seeing the block.

Thats seems simple enough.
-- you might regret saying that - they are a nightmare to remove with out the special tool.

I've found my 12v USB charge thing works. . . .

others have used various tools, implements to try and remove them . . .

just unplug the connector first for safety reasons . . .

Lol. Always safety first. I have various tools down at our work shop that may be of use. Looking forward to the challenge.

I've added a link above for the tool . .

Wow comes with a hefty price. I have a few ideas in mind which I shall try tomorrow. I'll be sure to post if I find a cheaper way. Your USB charger must just be a lucky buy

Yes... total fluke..

I grabbed the charger the other day and the whole lot come out.

Worked it out now.

Push in. Twist. Pull out.

So, I may have just found the fuse had not even noticed this before. I will need to get a 20amp replacement. Will keep you posted. @Loz, have you known this fuse to be over there maybe?maybe one to note down if it is. Its the yellow 20amp on the far left all on its own. In the D block.

That must be a dealer fit job as it would have been 15A from the factory...

Possibly stumbled across production change made in November 2017?

Wow. Good find. Just sat at home with my tub of fuses thinking should I put a 15 in or buy a 20?
Also regarding the actual 12v socket in the dash the leads that come away from it to the fusebox. Does not have a connector in the cable loom for info?
Thanks again for the digging gents.

Good find.. I’ll add that photo to the fuse location collection.
@Goyt just to confirm, you don’t have the second battery?

No Loz definitely standard, two single seats with no after factory mods, its a five seater SWB Kombi. I found a fuse box by the engine battery. But thats it.

So just to conclude replaced the fuse with a 15amp as I did not have a 20. All good but whilst I had the power off and the vents out thought I'd put this in. For those guys wanting to take out the 12v socket. Just brute force with a flat blade screwdriver. Mine would just not come apart. Even when I had removed it I cannot get it apart. Also had to gerryrig a fuse holder as I could not get my hand in the gap to put the fuse in. Love a bit of blue tack.

I want to relocate my top dash 12 v socket. To do this I will have to cut and extend the 3 wires to enable this. The centre wire is grey and blue, which I assume is just for illumination? Do I need to replace this grey and cable with like for like or can I just use a similar sized cable? If it needs to be grey and blue, any ideas of where I could purchase this?

I would think as long as its 1mm or more you can use any type of flex. Do you know a sparks? They would definitely have a short length you can have. Not sure on the grey i beleive I just cable tied mine out of the way.

Did you manage to find a connector for the top dash cig lighter. I do not have a SC 40 fuse, so trying to locate a way of disconnecting the socket before removal. I have the socket out, but now need cut the wires.

Nope never found a connector. The lads talked about it in the early part of this thread i posted a photo showing the loom but it had no connector. I also posted a pic of where I found the fuse for it, SF-11, one of the lads said it was a dealer mod for my fuse being there? I just cut the cables next to the old cig lighter to keep as long as pos.

I've tried getting my fingers in to pull fuse 11, but unable to do so. Did you have to remove any of the facial to get access to the fuse?
