Travelin-Lite DRL Headlights

Thanks for posting - especially interested to see what you did with the wiring

I'm really pleased with the wiring now. I used Tesa fabric wiring tape as I doesn't go sticky so should still look great in the years to come.
Once the lights were installed and the bumper replaced, when looking at the rear of the clusters from inside the bonnet it looks really neat and not at all an eye sore.

Did you remember to spray the rad matt black while bumper was off?

lol, not this time unfortunately. But i'm planning on getting the bumper of again in the summer so may do that job then.

I'm jealous of your garage! I'm waiting for a time when I'm free and the weather is decent, so it could be May by the time I get them fitted :)

Which bulbs did you fit?

Thanks, yeah I'm co-renting a unit with a friend who has a Motorcycle business. I use the space for building / servicing bikes and some storage.... and being able to work on my bus in the dry for the first time today was awesome. I need to invest in a pair of really good axel stands, wheel ramps and a good trolley jack just to help get Van's up about 300mm off the floor.

I went with the additional bulbs supplied by travelin-lite.

I phoned THQ today to ask them to confirm what their extra bulbs supplied are and the confirmed they were 100w super whites. They also said they were perfectly road legal and sounded fed up of folk asking about these all the time.

Not being an expert on the matter of legalities, I think I will go for the Travellin Lite one’s as it sounds like they come with 55w super white bulbs.

Not sure 100 watt bulbs are road legalo_O
I was always told there were illegal but I cannot find any info to say they are. If cars and vans were meant to have them the manufactures would have fitted them in the first place. Rally cars use them but their wiring is beefed up to take the extra current they draw.

Looking at the wiring that comes with those light units I would not want to be loading it with 100 watts! Pretty sure that filament bulbs are limited to 55/65

So to those who have installed these new LED DRL headlights, how does the dipped beam performance compare with the original H4s?

I'd say the dipped beam is 15-30% better. What really helps is the pattern of the beam. It's wider and cleaner so gives a better quality light on the road.

I have the TL headlight units being fitted this week. I've also done some 'tidying up' of the original birds nest wiring.

I'm fitting Philips H7 Ultinon LED 'bulbs' - I've had fun and games fitting the driver unit. Philips recommend using cable ties to attach the driver unit to the back of the internal . With some trail and error and patience, I managed to get these fitted without any problem. Hopefully the light output will justify the additional time, effort and cost.

The LED bulbs make a HUGE difference. I'm running them and as you can appreciate.... fitting them with the lights already installed is somewhat of a PITA lol but it's well worth the cost / effort.
Is your van a Euro 6? Weirdly I get a bulb warning with the LED bulbs. Not all the time. Seems to happen more when driving at night and in the rain... so basically with the lights on and using the wipers. But even then it doesn't happen every-time so it's a bit of a mystery. NO regrets though at all.

Hello!!!

the lights need regulation? mine are higher than oem. with the screw I have lowered them, but I would like to lower them more, but the screw is already at its limit, should I reguld with the potentiometer or the motor? Another doubt when you connected them for the first time, did you hear the headlights automatically adjusted to a position? Thanks a lot

Small Update:

So 20+ months on, I can say I'm still very happy with my lights. The LED upgrade bulbs have lasted great.... I do still from time to time get the bulb warning light come up so still something I need to figure out.... but it doesn't worry me that much.
The build quality is great, so much so I would say the headlights are in as good condition now as they were 20months ago.

I have also just today gone through the first MOT with my bus and can confirm it went through with flying colours, thankfully. But it also in a way confirms that LED bulbs in the projector aftermarket lights seem to be 'acceptable'.

I think that there is still plenty of ambiguity surrounding the legality issue and you'll probably find that one tester will pass something that another will fail. I get this with exhaust issues on my bikes so I always go to the same place now and don't have any problems.

Agreed, although I’ve never used this tester and I don’t know them.
I will use them again for sure.

I'm glad these are still working well. Mine turned up today along with LED dipped bulbs. I can't wait to get time to fit them.

I'm tempted to fit LED bulbs in mine. Has anyone changed bulbs on these while fitted in the vehicle? Access looks tight!
