No not battery related, it was to do with control module(s) not shutting down when the vehicle was locked up

You don't remember the details? My old T6 came from the factory with BCM 7E0 937 090 H80 0733 and at some point late 2016 it was updated to 0736. Unfortunately I wasn't then quite up to VW configuration management but faintly seem to remember a mention about module not shutting down and thus flattening battery being the reason for the update. Unfortunately the technician has even worse memory so couldn't confirm any details any more.

Afraid not, mine was done before I knew anything about it but I would agree and think it was BCM related
Even if it’s not directly the BCM that was drawing power as it’s also the can gateway it can/will affect all modules I assume ?

Quite possible. However, before the update I noticed cargo area lights (retrofitted LEDs) were glowing always. That went away with the update.
