Trying to judge quality of conversion

Yep, as I stated earlier ‘no amount of saving is worth the risk of lowered safety’.

It’s all a learning curve…earlier this week I had no idea that a seat with seatbelts could be put in a van without the seat having gone through rigorous safety tests.
I didn't know this either, but all the reputable builders were at great pains to point this out to me.

For some strange reason the builders that used other brands of non approved seating never mentioned it.

In my experience a good converter wont assume a buyer knows it all and will bend over backwards to tell you the whys and wherefore of every aspect of the van, and they all did.

I went to view this in person and its a very clean van. I found a LWB at a lower price which is why I didn't end up going for it, and the guy refused to budge on price. That was over a month ago now so he might be more flexible to want to get rid of it...

And this one looks pretty decent, obviously it's a private sale so good idea to get an AA (or equivalent) inspection. The 204 engine also has it's well documented issues so I'd put a new EGR in the shopping list straight away if it was me.

Then have a look at some conversion companies, AJC in Glossop (assuming you're in the South Yorkshire/Derbyshire area) get a good rep on here, I have no affiliation with them, I just drool at their electrics occasionally! AJC Conversions, Derbyshire

He might have to move on the price when he discovers that he listed 17” Devonports but I can’t see them in the pics!!!

Thanks for those suggestions…I’ve not ruled out the van (albeit having a proper crash tested bed in), however the thread has definitely got me thinking about taking more control by getting a base van and choosing a converter.

Thanks all

Wouldn't you fancy a beautiful Yellow T6 with everything done to it for 25k?! @T6ChrisO just happens to be selling one!

Sourcing a good base van and converting is the ideal option (in my opinion!)

The only thing against you is time. However, the benefits far outweigh that. You will know what has been done and that it has been done properly.

Break it into phases: pop top and windows; rock n roll bed; electrics; sound deadening and insulation; and then furniture!

All done to your spec and budget, not someone else’s with all the compromises that comes with. Better still, future amendments are easy as you know what is behind the furniture/panels.

Oh, and you’ll probably save a fortune. For each of the areas above, there are lots of threads on here for research and some members who are experts in those areas.
