Upgrading composition media to discover media questions

Looking at upgrading the standard composition media to a discover media. I’ve looked at the alpines and the halos and whilst they look extremely good, I’m preferring he oem look. Reasons for upgrading,
1) wireless Apple car play
2) digital dash is on the wanted list and
3) I love the look of the piano gloss black dash trim
4) looking for a slightly bigger screen.

So the questions are (for a 2021 T6.1 Kombi)
1) Are the correct part numbers 5H0035820D and 5NN919605D?
2) is there any other component(s) I need I.e. gps antenna, different loom etc.?
3) DAB is cr*p where I am so is it worthwhile swapping out the original LTE antenna and replacing with a LTE/GPS/DAB sharkfin?
4) is this a straight swap out with VCDS coding / adaptions required? or will I need someone with VCP or ODIS?

Thanks in advance, Nick

There are many antennas on a 6.1 and not all where you'd expect - see my post here

Thanks @roadtripper I’ve found the aerials in the mirrors when I added side assist, and I’ve also caught the cable for the LTE antenna (SOS) on the front middle of the roof. I need to replace the LTE antenna so thought I may as well put a shark fin up there with DAB, GPS, LTE etc

Anyone replaced the lte (sos) aerial on a t6.1 with a shark fin?

I've seen folks fit additional LTE antennas for additional routers and also replacement DAB antenna - but not replacing the OE one.

I also wouldn't expect good performance from a GPS system co-mounted with a transmitting antenna like an LTE - GPS signals are very low and will be swamped by a nearby transmission. You'll note in the OE arrangement the GPS/GNSS is well away from any of the 3 possible LTE antenna - and most phones now have the LTE/WiFi at the bottom and GPS at the top for similar reasons.

DAB will be similar but not quite as bad.

All in ones are convenient in that it's one unit to cut a hole in the body - but radio wise that convenience comes at a cost.

Thanks @roadtripper looks like I’m going to have to replace the OE one and look at suitable alternatives for DAB and GPS

Van will probably end up looking like a mobile radio station!

Might be worth trying one of the windscreen mount DAB antenna - should be plenty of space on a T6/6.1 but I'd keep it same side as the OE one and away from the LTE on the roof.

Would heated screen interfere with windscreen mounted DAB antenna?

Hi Not sure if im in the corrrect place. I have a t6 campervan, the very basic model. I want to upgrade the radio so I can have blue tooth and media as a minimum. My van has no switches on the steeering wheel so I dont need anything too fancy. Any advice of what unit to get. Any advice would be appreciated

Drop us a pm or call and il go through the options

@Absolut5 would you be able to answer any of my questions in first post?
The discovery media is a lot better than the standard media, I’ve had both and teh discovery dab is much better, CarPlay is also superior

However it’s not a straight swap, as the looms need extensions as the module sits behind the dash on the discovery where yours is all behind the screen ,

There is only a couple companies I’ve seen that now started to offer this option in the past few weeks, not cheap and does require Odis coding

Many thanks, I’ll have to have a think! and a look around.

Just don’t buy a second hand unit as most are not compatible, if you want to go down this route then definitely speak to one of the companies that offer cracking for the MIB3 and work out how much it’s going to cost you first !

Hi all, I had my composition Media upgraded to discovery yesterday by MPVAG ( Highly recommended) which integrates superbly with my virtual cockpit. One question I do have is regarding the sharkfin; are they all the same on all t6.1's and is there a separate gps antenna for the discovery unit or is it built into the control box. tia

GPS aerial is in the wing mirror. Shark fin (aerial front centre of roof) is LTE aerial for the SOS button / function
