Upgrading Starter Battery - how to guide

Did you use VCDS or OBD11 to code?
Neither actually... Followed some advice on here and found the ODBeleven. You only need the dongle and the PRO code subscription to do unlimited long coding. If you buy the PRO code direct from Odbeleven the code appears in your order status portal and saves buying via Google play store (which is a bit more expensive). If you have Android the old (cheaper) dongle is fine, the newer one supports iOS.
Coded two things: firstly the battery change (capacity, manufacturer and 10 digits of serial number), and then coded the AGM from EFB.

Since then I've understood and cleared some earlier faults and enabled the dial need sweep on start up and MPH in the MFD display.

Hi andyhasalandy

I have just received the battery from Tanya.
I am waiting for the ODBeleven pro to arrive.
Can you tell me where the serial number is on the battery?(See pic)

Is this the way you did it?

The serial is not really important, when you hook up if if lets you see the current value of your factory battery its likely you will see it has a serial number of 11111111111
VW do not log serial numbers at the factory, the point is the number just needs to change so the van knows it has a new battery fitted, i changed my battery yesterday so i edited the capacity up to 080 and changed the serial number to 1234567890

I cant remember what the manufacturers code is for Bosch (lets say its BOS) as an example your new coding will look like 095 BOS 1234567890

Yes sorry for the slow reply here. The serial number on Bosch is the barcode number, I used the first 10 digits from that (from your picture the number starting 4047425... From what I'd read so long as the barcode is different than the one that's there it's sufficient to trigger that it's a new battery than the one previously installed). The manufacturer code i used the Varta equivalent - VA0 (note the last digit is a zero not O).

I've started to have battery problems with my T6.1 highline. It has been converted and was fine for months and now all of a sudden the battery keeps going flat. Took it to my local vw dealer and they have blamed the conversion as I expected with some rubbish excuse. The battery fitted is a varta but does not seem the same as you guys mention as part of the t6 recalls. It's a varta 70ha 700a efb+ .

First thing to do is a current draw test to see if you can work out what is draining the battery. Youtube Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics for some ideas, he did one recently looking for a drain, it turned out to be an electric seat positioning switch

What excuse did they give you ?

Pete
Because the voltmeter on the conversion was left on draining the leisure battery which then drains the main battery as they are connected. I'm sure the Sterling battery to battery charged prevents that.

Depends. As mentioned above you need to measure current draw from the starter battery as a start point.
There are several threads here on how to do this.

The total draw is 3mA after about 2 mins and disconnecting the leisure side of the van makes no difference. Auto stop start has also stopped working. While driving I'm getting 14.9volts engine off 12.2v after one night down to 11.7v.

Another annoying thing is after picking up van from vw all the options have stopped working. Folding mirrors, rain sensitive wipers, electric windows up and down cornering lights. All selected on in info system.

Stop start won't kick in until the battery has sufficient charge in it, take starter battery out of the van and give it a good charge with a decent charger, it could take a couple of days to get it back to best.
