What’s this monstrosity? #tachograph

Interesting.
When @T6180 was on the hunt for a 6.1, he found a main dealer selling 6.1s with these fitted and they told him it was a case of 'just removing it' and it wasn't a difficult job.
I wonder if they've actually removed one before, or they are just assuming.

It would be easy to remove. Ithand drilled into the dash with big ugly 1” holes for the relevant cabling!
D’you think he might have been talking to a salesman?!!

by the sounds of it, ask the dealer to remove before delivery and see what the reaction is!

100% typical salesman

I've taken your comments on board Bognor Vans so I will keep on looking ,I can't cope with a butchered dash and I have no trips to any bush planned to throw a radio in the hole

It’s for a tacho. It’s been mentioned elsewhere on the forum.

Gents - thanks for your replies :) - I think based on this I may well not look at purchasing this T6.1 as don't fancy the headache of messing around removing the tacho  and having holes in my new dash

The search continues ;)

The trays empty so tachometer wasn’t fitted from the looks of it especially as switch are blank and appear to be inserts only

We brought a brand new van with this for our rental fleet. Needed a van quickly so took some built stock Thought we could just remove it! Oh no. The dash is absolutely butchered underneath, like completely butchered! We will fit a new dash top when we sell
Hi Oli, sorry to dig up an old thread but did you ever sort out the dash on this van? It turns out that the T6.1 my converter has reserved has this horrible tacho housing and I've told him to forget it (it was a knee jerk reaction but I'm not a fan of the "courier look" in a camper). The trouble is everything else is OK about it and I'm willing to consider a workaround but only if I can get rid of it without having to put up with butchered holes. I'd be grateful to hear if your story had a positive outcome ...

The only way to sort this will be a new dash top! We de-fleet this van soon so will be looking at options. The trouble is, it’s so badly fitted at the factory, the holes are big and irregular!

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. I'd hoped you'd worked out a way by now so I think this is going to be a non-starter for me. It's a shame because it was on a 20 plate with the DSG sport box, front and rear LEDs and all the other gubbins that VW removed from the MY70 plate.

I don’t see what this issue is to be honest, I specked one in my van - yes it does not look the best but I think it’s pretty practical. Good sunglasses storage, and when it’s sunny things stored in the cubby don’t reflect into the windscreen. I also wired my erbespacher control to sit on the dummy switches - again out of the way of the sun and reflecting onto the windscreen.
I guess I’m the odd one out!

I’m our van we have a large nasty plastic housing in the centre of the dash and it looks a bit naff. Before I pry it off does anyone know if there is a blank/delete panel or equivalent to replace whatever this hunk of plastic is supposed to be in place of (cd changer maybe).
Thanks I’m advance for any replies

Ah ta. I’ll pop it out and hope there aren’t any holes in the dash beneath. If I can’t find an available aftermarket tray I’ll knock something together. Thanks for the response.
