What Have You Been Listening To Today?

Was just thinking there should be a 'what are you listening to' thread, and oh there is

I was a teenager in the mid 90's, so grew up in the grunge/nu-metal/indie era and I've never really grown out of it! My main music style is quite one sided!

That's my 2024 most played songs playlist, lots and lots of SOAD, Fontaines DC, Radiohead, Rammstein, RATM... I've been listening to a lot of Incubus recently, I was obsessed with in the early 2000's, saw them live twice.

I can only imagine the utter choas and amazingness it would have been to see RATM here, xmas number 1 2009

Was playing Morning View by Incubus yesterday, not listened in a while. Saw them live a few times

I often Listen to the radio Via free View. I used to listen via FM Radio. I had an old Quad FM Valve radio which had fantastic sound played through our HiHI until we where struck very near by lightning can not remember quite when but over 20 years ago It damaged our HiFi and Radio and nocked my wife over other damage as well some trees had strike marks down there trunks and our 2 Wolf Hound Dogs who were withe me a short distance away fled. I can remember a huge blinding flash and increasable noise/ Anyway it was a while before I could replace the HiFi and when I did I did not replace the Radio. Various UK Governments had decides that radio as we know it would eventually end and in the meantime FM radio would be diminished, DAB was to be encouraged followed by DAB+. For HiFi devotees this was awful news because believe it or not Britain had the best national radio distribution system in the World and the very best sound Quality via BBC. DAB was no where near as good as FM by a long way and DAB + even worse, Faced with spending money on a system we were told would be eventually suspended I instead just listened to radio Via at First SKY Satellite and these days Free-view/ Well I missed FM but could see no sense in paying for something that was going to die any time soon. Well FM is still available today all those years latter and I am miffed that I did not buy another FM tunner. It depending on Broadcaster but through a hifi FM is still way better than DAB but no as good as it once was/ Basically lack of investment and digitalisation and degrading of broadcasts but still very good on the main national BBC stations.

Any way two programs that i regularly listen to on most week days or evenings

BBC R3 Night Tracks 22.00 - 23.30 Mon - Fri Has a diverse range of quality music across genres, Well worth listening to and there should be music for most tastes

My favourite Radio Program, is one of the vert best Jazz programs that I have ever heard

BBC R3 Round Midnight 23.30 - 00.30 Mon - Fri Introduced by Saxophonist Keweto Kinch with live broadcasts and guests most of the music is absolutely wonderful to my ears at least.

BBC Radio 3 of course is known for Classical Music which I also enjoy but I do realise that is not everyone cup of tea though many still may like film scores and similar music. BBC R3 also devotes time for other genres there may be something for you. Some of the other Radio Stations such as BBC R2 in the evenings each night will follow one genre or another Mon - Fri be it jazz, Country, Rock Blues and so on. BBC R6 covers different spectrums of music through the week and night also

For those who have a Hi Fi a home it may well be worth while ether plugging in a radio tuner or SKY or Free View or Free Sat and having a listen might find something that you enjoy and it cost basically nothing. I have a system of ATC Amplifiers Linn Record Deck, Pioneer SACD Blue Ray player, Free View and I am fortunate to have PMC Mid Box, PMC MB Speakers old but still the same spec today which I doubt I would be allowed by SWMBO to spend money on today. They way about 50KG each and will play down to 20hz and have been found in professional studios over the years including BBC I would really have liked PMC Big Box PMC BB, they are huge twice the weight of mine but use the same mid and tweeter as mine but have even larger Woofa 15" as aposed to my 12" Woofa the BB transmit down to 16hz and both are Transmission line speekers as are most PMC speekers. Any way thats sent everyone asleep so its good night from me and happy listening. :)

About a week ago I bought a cheap Internet/DAB/FM Radio about £170 approx. It was less than one tenth of the price of a valve FM Radio that I took a little too long deliberating about. So I have this Audizio Trento Internet DAB Radio. It is for attachment to my Hi-fi. I last listened to Radio Hi-fi over 20 years ago when we where hit by a lightning strike which took out much Hi-fi gear and did some damage and knocked my wife over. I decided not to replace my valve FM radio because we where being told FM was being taken out and that DAB was better anyway. The latter is completely untrue as FM in the UK is one of the most developed in the world. Today years later FM is still available. Any way I bought this radio for a little bit of fun and not expecting too much after all for £170 what would one expect even though I read a tip or partial review in Hi-fi News in one of the smaller columns towards the rear end of the monthly magazine.

Well it is the best £170 that I have ever spent it exudes quality on the internet even on small number of bits but on 320Kbts it is really excellent and I can listen to music right around the World including from the USA, Australia etc I have programmed a few favourite stations and i have recently been Listening to Jazz on Linn Records Internet Radio JAZZ Station at 320Kbts. Some may know Linn if they have an interest in Hi-fi Record Player Decks of old today they make all sorts of extremely expensive Hi-fi gear. However the internet Radio that they broadcast is from there own recording studios They have about 3 main stations including Jazz, Classical and more middle of the road recordings all high definition and all free to listen.

My FM aerials have unfortunately been shot down when we where working away from home so I can not comment of FM quality as without a receiving aerial I can only pull in a few BBC stations and no DAB at all. I will need to buy a reel of RG8 or better for some long runs and a new YAGI beam type FM receiving Arial or two linked and purchase possibly, an aerial rotator and a cable spitter for dedicated DAB though no real need for that DAB with FM and Internet having a fibre optic cable for internet and telephone and see if I can bring in sone stations from Ireland as well as main FM transmitters here 20 plus miles away BBC R3 for instance. I can receive RTE FM Transmissions in the cars. I shall just enjoy Internet for now as any purchases will need to be on line as little is purchasable any where near here and unless from Amazon it is one hell of a job. Amazon always finds our remote post box. I intend in future to purchase a quality Streamer and DAC.

Any way Linn is worth having a go at even for only more middle of the road stuff if you are not a JAZZ fanatic.

:)
