What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

As long as you didn’t do it like this...
Drill on hammer action, baseplate removed from jigsaw, five thumbs on each hand, sandpaper to remove metal, my god, this is a how NOT to do it video if anything.

Oh my days!!! And the most worrying thing about this that many many VW conversion companies will have sprung up out there, who will be selling their “skills” to us lucky punters, simply because they have done what this fella has done, and reckon “that’s tidy, I can do this sort of thing on anyone else’s vehicle”!

but that’s the worry and reality of the ungoverned conversion industry...
I’ve watched similar videos on YouTube when looking for how to’s.... I certainly learnt more how not to ... some shockers out there AND they share the sh!te too!

I watched that video when it was first posted on YouTube and thought ‘Oh my god!’ Amazing he thinks that’s the way it should be done!!!! Horrendous. I hope people don’t copy it.

Have you watched the side window one? How the eff he finished the job with 10 digits using a jig saw like that I've no idea. Must be the worst job I've seen. And he seems to be sponsored as well :eek:

Fitted a 'Seat Shelf' to the Kiravans swivel double passenger seat. It takes up almost all the (otherwise redundant) space of the centre seat and adds a really useful place to put stuff while your driving whilst knowing it's not going to slide off and disappear. It also came with two cup holders although, in practice, I think one of them will just get in the way of the gear stick when you try to shift. I made a box to fix to it adding valuable storage (which is sadly lacking in the dash) and, I hope, a nice comfy right arm rest for the passenger. I only managed to finish as the light was fading and need to try it properly on a drive out tomorrow. That said, I'm already not over-convinced by the box / arm rest - ergonomically the height is about right but it might just look better with a lower profile.001.jpg002.jpg003.jpg

A few Carista tweaks today once the hangover cleared....

Sweeping dials, extended lane change flasher, extended coming home lights, hazards flash on emergency braking and heated mirrors when rear window heater on....

Didn't think the wink on turning feature looked right and not sure I want the auto lock doors yet... all in all pleased with the mods done today... sweeping dials is a very nice feature..

Drove back from Somerset to find the delights of the M5 closed. Massive delays.
Engine management light comes on yellow, emissions error. Then a quick call VW recovery about the problem only to be told my road tax over due and can’t do anything until sorted, quick visit to gov.com and relieved of said road tax and then a very nice AA man reset it.
Bit of a day to be sure....

Where did you get the glovebox with integrated USB charger from?
It was from Van-x (bought at Busfest), and came with matching left and right air vents. It had a rectangular hole inside on the right that I believe was to accept the OEM USB/phono socket panel, but it also had a blanking plate for if this was not to be used. I fitted a USB point to the blanking plate instead, wired up to an spare 12v to 5v USB output that also supplies my iPhone tracker.

I also didn't think the 'wink' feature looked right until I saw it on a mates T6 that was following me. It actually works really nicely and just gives a 'van' that air of something very modern and a little special, so have it activated now.

What about 'tear drop wipe' ?
Also, depending on what head unit you have, my mates T6 with Nav has an option of 10 different start up displays, which looked pretty slick. Sadly my none-nav unit doesn't come up with such posh trickery :(

Hi @Tourershine

I've not enabled tear drop wipe, I've had it before on a previous car and it sometimes causes more smears... So left it off for now and see how I go...

Headunit is a kenwood 9190, it is packed with features and you can have various start up screens, auto tilting face on start up etc... All a bit snazzy and very cool... but above all it does what it says on the box very well..
