What Have You Done To Your Van Today?

Not to the van itself but made an accessory for it.
Needed a table for our Kombi so went down the road of cutting down a fiama leg to a suitable length for use with the tripod and made a custom tabletop. As the fam call the van Vader what could be better than the Death Star for eating our fish’n’chips off :)

Finally prepped and ready for full conversion.

Loads of jobs done today,
- removed old floor (old panels came out yesterday)
- removed spray glue overspray
- metal paint on all exposed metal and screw holes
- reverse camera and wiring fitted

Final task… VCDS with the support of a fellow T6F member bright and early tomorrow morning

If tow bar and reversing camera are both working 12 hours from now, I’ll be a very happy man.

Hi, I was wondering if you could tell me what type of reversing camera you have fitted and what steps you need to take to get it working on the built in screen?

Hi mate,

That’s a loaded question :)

There’s heaps of great guidance and information in this forum, and I relied heavily on what I learned here to get the job done.

In short (because all the nitty gritty can be found in this forum):
- bought ‘lowline’ camera from Euro CarSystems for about £250 + import fees of £60 or so.
- fitted it myself by cutting a hole in the tailgate, running the wires to the head unit, with a couple connections along the way
- met with a fellow T6F member who helped me code the camera to the van

Very pleased with the result.

Camera is clear and convenient. Works really well with reversing sensors and trailer electrics.

Feel free to ask questions, but definitely do some reading. It’s hundreds cheaper to do it yourself, if you are willing to invest the time…. Helps if your van is empty, as mine was.

Hi mate
Can you clarify
I’ve got a low line genuine camera on my van
I’ve lost the camera on screen for some reason.
I’ve looked into tailgate and it’s the genuine camera. I’ve checked the feed and there’s no voltage getting to the camera. On the black plug.
I was wondering if you knew on the low line camera where it gets it’s power from?

I did what I think most do, and took power from the head unit. If yours is installed from factory… I don’t really know, to be honest. Could be that the power comes from the head unit, or could be from under the steering wheel.

Maybe the next step is to get a look at the back of the head unit. It’s not hard to get to. Follow the video feed wires from the blue 12 pin block in the quad lock and see what you can find.

I’m no expert, and I’m sure someone else on here would know better how the factory cameras are wired in.
