What TV are you watching??

@AussieMick. Coincidentally, we've just started on two Aussie made series which, on first impressions, are both really good. 'Operation Buffalo' about nuclear tests in South Australia during the 1950s and 'Upright' about a troubled musician (played by the ever excellent Tim Minchin) and an equally troubled teenage girl on a road trip from one side of Oz to the other. Both are dramas which are packed with dark humour, a thing that you Aussies seem to do rather well. A couple of other series from Down Under that I think I've mentioned on here before are Secret City and Mr Inbetween which are both well worth seeking out. The first is a straight up drama about conspiracies at the heart of the Australian establishment and the latter another dark comedy about a gangland hitman and his pals.

The short answer is no, our TV here is no better than that in Australia. We probably have around 100 free to air stations (excluding dating / soft porn ones), most of which are just regurgitating the worst of old material or are shopping channels. Even the good ol' BBC seems intent of churning out reality / talent shows with loud adverts for same puncuating their few decent shows. As ex-pats, my wife and I seek out Aussie shows on Netflix and Prime, partly because they are generally good quality with a healthy dash of Aussie humour (eg Wanted) and partly to see all that blue sky

Saw Upright a few years ago - yes it was good. Where did you find Opearion Buffalo?
Cheers

I'm not sure about The Serpent. Watching it in the old fashioned way but the jumping back and forth gets annoying. Makes sense tho. Just annoying.
I know what you mean, set in 1975, 3 months early, 2 years later, 2 months early, 5 years before that. By my calculation that makes it the early Middle Ages I think! Why couldn’t they just put the dates in?! And some of the dialogue between the Belgian guy and the Dutch guy is painful. But still want to watch the rest of it though :)

I hope your TV is better in the UK than ours is in Australia.

If, like me, you hate science fiction, don’t watch films and won’t watch anything American, there isn’t much worth watching on UK TV. I only like to watch factual/documentary programmes or sport, so I spend most of my viewing time on YouTube or the satellite sports channels.

Was that "Resident Alien" Loz and if so I've just watched the first episode... the bar lady was one of the cast from "People of Earth" and the feel of the show is like "Barry".
I like.
