What TV are you watching??

year on year they're losing 300,000 licence payers as people turn to streaming services like wot I does, and in the last financial year they lost almost 900,000 licence payers. The government can do what it wants, as the pool of licence payers diminishes the licence won't sustain the Beeb no matter how much they ratchet the cost.

And apologies for sort of going off topic, had only mentioned it by way of an explanation as to why I'd signed up to Paramount+ while poorly and stuck indoors.

^^^ with respect that is incorrect.

The law changed 20 years ago. You no longer require a licence simply for owning a tv.

You only need the licence to watch live TV from any source or stream the BBC iPlayer. That is it. You could own 25 TVs and still not be required to pay the licence if you do not watch live TV.

I don't do either (I don't even have an aerial or dish) occasionally streaming from other services via my computer when I fancy watching something.

I've no great Ideological beef with the Beeb (although I'm glad not to be funding twits like linekar or pay the salary for their constant stream of perverts), but I simply don't watch live TV or use iplayer at all, so I'm not lawfuly required to pay and therefore don't pay.
Thanks for the update. 20 years out of date is about right for me.

Started on the second series of Amazon's Lord of the Rings based stuff. Looks ok so far...

I've got a busy day doing the ironing so I'll start work watching U.F.O. on ITVX to pass the time while doing the deed.

The Tower - ITVX
Series 1 - Done (Excellent)
Series 2 - Done (Excellent)
Series - Will start tonight

Brassic, absolutely brilliant series, full of laughs too

Can I ask, can you honestly say you don't listen to any BBC radio at all? Podcasts included.

pretty sure you don't need a TV licence to listen to BBC radio.

Brassic, absolutely brilliant series, full of laughs too

Just started watching this, it's great - quite dark humour but very funny at times. Was a fan of Joseph Gilgun from Preacher and he's good in this too!

The car radio licence was abolished in the early 70s. In any case, I'm a Planet Rock man, don't listen to any other station.

Never listened to a podcast in my life. I wouldn't know how to!

Spotify me for on the stereo, 98% of the time. Maybe a bit of BBC Radio 6 Music if I can't think of anything to listen to/want an eclectic mix of music!

I'm nearly 60 and play bass (and mandolin, mandola, octave mandolin, Irish Bouzouki, balalaika and a bit of guitar) in a rock covers band and do some session work and depping so apart from Planet Rock being the music I enjoy and largely from my era I'm always listening with a professional ear.

I did used to listen to R4 a lot but come 2016 and a certain vote they got ridiculous with politics. Even in comedy shows they were cracking their right-on political jokes. I'm not interested, don't want it rammed down my throat, so I binned off R4 at that point and haven't watched or listened to the Beeb since. Shame, because I loved the Archers but the constant political whinging just became too much to bear.

Slow Horses Season 4 starts today, but I think this is one to binge when all episodes are available.

I like watching an episode week tbh, I end up watching it over a weekend otherwise, and it ends too early!!

Plus, I've got loads to watch at the moment - Brassic, Bad Monkey, Kleo, Rings of power (saving that for my euro trip) and of course Slow Horses.

Oh my god, just watched the episode in the 1st season (episode 5) where they try to steal the contents of a weed farm that's been found by the police.... Brilliant. Just brilliant.

Then...

The f*****g hypnotist!  9, 8, you did bum a dog... 7, 6, It were a poodle... 5, 4....

I've got Finestkind bookmarked to watch today. Reviews are mixed but my BiL is a film buff and reckons it's good so I'll give it a go.

@Sasquatch, the point I'm trying to bring across is the licence fee doesn't just pay for the tv, it funds radio, websites, and a fair portion of Channel 4, but if you can honestly say you don't use any of its output, fair enough. I work for the BBC on occasion, and quite frankly they're a joke, ( if you've ever seen W1A, its all true) and the news dept has been a right wing propaganda machine for years, but the BBC is more than that, and I believe very good value for money compared to many of the streaming services.

Anyway, Slow Horses S4 is looking good, has is Kaos on Netflix.

I don't watch any of it, that's why I ditched the licence In the first place. Being a shift worker (prior to retirement) I've never been a huge tv watcher anyway and with an autistic daughter who's not interested in tv and a wife who works full time the set used to go weeks without being switched on. Now we've moved I don't even have an aerial.

If its not on BluRay or streamed on Paramount+ or ITVX I don't get to watch it.

I've no great downer on the Beeb overall, I'm sure it has its good bits as well as the bad, but I simply don't consume their product so don't pay their fee.
