Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

View attachment 36725 St Anton im Arlberg Austria. Another week, another ski resort. The shed at the side of the van is a private bathroom/pot wash. Hot shower, loo, washbasin & kitchen sink. The ski bus stops outside the campsite.

Thats a nice setup with the "personal lodge". Have you managed to camp in many other resorts or do you have to park nearby and get a bus?

We go to Tignes in France and they is a ban on campervans/moterhomes entering the resort - I don't think you can even park it in the external car parks! Not sure if this is common or if they have had issues with people camping and getting snowed in?

So far this year we’ve been to:-
Sybelles resorts in France; camped at Camping du Col. ski bus stop 80m from campsite.

Les Deux Alps, camped at Champ de Moulin in Venosc, 5 min walk to gondola.

Skied Madonna Di Campiglio, Passo Tonale & Pejo. Based ourselves at Camping Cevedale.

Selva in the Dolomites, skied the Sella Ronda. We had a hotel booked here for a week, but we arrived a couple of days early to avoid some heavy weather that was due in. We camped a couple of nights in the town in a car park at the base of the Valentin lift. €7.50/day. There are some very good toilets a 10 minute walk away in the Skidepot under the Ciampinoi gondola.

We’re now in St Anton, it’s just dumped a foot of snow down overnight & still coming, so no skiing today for us. When we leave here, we’re heading home. Not a bad trip though, 5 weeks & 7 ski resorts.
Most of the resorts have involved a ski bus, but to be fair they have been very efficient & free. The only Ski in/Out would be the carpark at Selva. The Deux Alps one is a gondola that takes you up the mountain from Venosc to Deux Alps. The campsite can arrange a ski locker in the town to save you walking up in ski boots & carrying skis. It was free at the time of our visit.

@Salty Spuds thanks for this. The trip you've done is something I'd like to do in a few years (when the kids have grown up) and to have the luxury to move around, beat the weather and busy traveling days sounds like a dream.

As a family, we always go to the same resort as we have made friends there, the skiing is good and we know where everything is (bars, food, pistes etc..) and the Mrs feels "safe" there???? and is happy for the kids to roam a little.

I'd be happy to catch a ski bus and as you mention, I've never had any problems catching them up the mountain but this was when I used to go on my own on a tight budget but its a little different now!

Out of interest, would you return to any of the resorts you've just been to or is the plan to hit as many different ones as possible? I've been to some resorts that I'd never go back to.

Sybelles is worth a look if you’re passing, we had a couple of days there & it was enough. I wouldn’t rush back.
Les Deux Alps is certainly worth a visit, we skied it out in 3 days.
I like Madonna/Marileva/Folgarida, this was my second visit. The Pinzolo area is one of my favourites. I wouldn’t bother with Passo Tonale, this is a “ski school” resort and a tad grim imo.
The Sella Ronda is stunning, this was our 5th visit. Says it all.
We are carrying out a recce on St Anton for next years “Hotel week” looking very promising so far.

I've done Les Deux Alps and the St Anton area quite a bit and have enjoyed the skiing there.

Never been to Sella Ronda or skied in Italy a lot (only a few times when I was kid and can't remember it much).

Thanks again, so more resorts to add to the ski tour.

Few guys climbing the cliffs today. Drove past Toms Field on way back to watch the sun set over Swyre Head. Will be taking a dip in the rock pool at Dancing Ledge when it warms up. Not the the dogs mind, they're pussies in the water!

Kimmeridge to Tyneham then onto Worbarrow Tout today. Pretty hilly this one, had plenty of stops on the walk. Tyneham is a deserted village whose residents were evacuated, I believe in WW2, never to return. It’s Army firing ranges now.
Got home, washed Van, and loaded up for early start tomorrow. Thought I’d show a couple of images of my Van interior set up for work. It’s essentially a 2-seater on workdays with 2 work tables. Suits me fine, and is a nice place to sit for a coffee + paperwork break.
