Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

@Dan Morritz. No, it's not just because you ride a bike. I do too but made a conscious decision at the beginning of this lockdown that I would keep all my routes fairly local and just do loops when I wanted longer rides. That's just my interpretation of the rules that say we should not travel outside our local area. I'm not your friend. Rant finished.

So basically, you broke lockdown rules - well done you.

without getting involved* he's not the only one is he - many of the Government for example.

also, which would you say was worse:
1 driving for 20mins to a remote location where you see no-one at all or
2. cycling to a urban space where there's 100's of people?

*but doing just that! sorry.

UK Government guidance strongly requests that people do not leave their local area. However, the Covid Regulations which officers enforce and which enables them to issue FPNs for breaches, do not restrict the distance travelled for exercise.

aaaah yet more confusion

This has been the case for a while

i'm sure it has BUT it's a pretty ambiguous guidance/statement isn't it? (as seems to have been the case with most of the advice)
for example, how do you interpret "do not restrict the distance travelled for exercise"?
- does that mean how far you travel to do your exercise (as in @Dan Morritz case)?? or does it mean how for do you travel as part of your exercise (ie. doing loops as @Bluesman has been doing)?

Seeing as derbyshire police retracted fines for those 2 women who travelled to foremark reservoir from another county for a walk, i interpret it as you can travel wherether you want for excercise.

I cycled through 3 counties - one of them being in a different country - on Saturday, albeit in a loop from home. I guess that's me on the naughty step too.
Yep, in a loop from home I can go through Wiltshire, Hampshire and Berkshire.....budge up on the naughty step, will ya?!! I hope someone doesn’t fall off his high horse!

aye i would agree, but i guess there's plenty that wouldn't/don't.
anyway. i'm not getting involved! ;)

stop indulging on the "what are you drinking tonight" thread and you'd even make it to Surrey as well ;)

I made a decision at the start of this lockdown to start all my rides and walks from the house as that was my interpretation of the rules. On those rides and walks though it’s obviously that I am in the minority in that interpretation (that includes Boris). If they wanted everyone to do this they would have made it the rule like they did in Scotland where they stipulated that exercise should begin and end at home, but they didn’t!

@Dan Morritz which climb was it? Did you smash it?

I was a bit flippant in posting something that clearly has question marks around whether it’s ok to do it, and @Bluesman totally got the wrong end of the stick.
I drove to a place/climb called Edgehill (@cgtmiles ) where you can string together two ascents of Edgehill itself - with the other ascent called Sunrising. There’s a hill climb comp here which I’m in for later in the year hopefully, so I strung a load of reps in and then came home. Hungry.

There are a lot of things that we all would like to do or feel 'hungry' for. That does not make it right. We may be getting out of this but there is a long way to go.
We all need to respect others and their friends and families even if you are happy to risk your own.

Absolutely agree. I drove 14 miles to take part in my exercise. Some people drive further than that to mingle with others in supermarkets. I’m not taking any risks.

We are told to stay in our local towns and villages. No more than 3 miles. I would not go 14 miles for exercise.
