I’ve been going to Southwest Cornwall regularly for the past 30 years but today’s trip was a new one for me. Parked up at Porthgwarra and a stunning walk across to Lands End and back. Shame there’s no overnight camping as it has all you need there but plenty of local campsites. View attachment 195251View attachment 195252View attachment 195253View attachment 195254
Yep. I didn’t try it myself but very popularThat’s a great walk ,is the little caffe still open
You’re not kidding about the masses if emmets round there (apparently I can claim not to be on account of marrying a local girl). Lands End is a horror show these days- you finally get there and all you want to do is get out at the first opportunity.I camp on that route a fair bit, but walking with a rucksack, 2 man tent and early get away. Pretty much the only spot that’s emmet free these days as they don’t like the 365 day wind and the lack of burger vans.

Thanks Dave. We’ve done the NC500 before so done smoo caves and stuff.Orkney has some nice archeology, a few World War features, Italian chapel and a few barriers, and the obligatory snap next to the sign pointing towards the hamlet called t**t! But other than that I found it a little dull. The old street is Stromness is picturesque but I personally wouldn't make a special trip to visit. We went there for a week scuba diving the wrecks in the flow, and had a day doing tourist stuff when the weather meant we could not dive, but I'm not sure I'd return.
I suppose it depends on whether you intend visiting the north coast again soon?
Do visit the caves at Durness. The drive along the north coast is nice (I say drive, I have traveled that road three times, but only by bicycle).
Perhaps there are things to do on Orkney which I missed and others will tell us about?
Edit: apologies to the mods, if this post is flagged for rude language. The hamlet really is called T w a t.
You are very lucky. We spent three boring hours there with the kids and saw nothing! Our youngest also left his fav teddy there...Thanks Dave. We’ve done the NC500 before so done smoo caves and stuff.
We are more interested in trying to see the Orca around Orkney. As it turns out they were last seen heading towards Shetland so we gave it a miss. We will come up again in a couple of months and have another go.
Currently at Rosemarkie having just been watching a fantastic display from the feeding dolphins at chanonry point-one of our favourite places.
We’ve seen them every time we’ve been, but today they were in a fishing frenzy. We even saw them flip a huge fish out of the water with a tail slap. First time I’ve seen that. You are very lucky.
