Which chainsaw?

Can't believe after being qualified for 30 years with a chainsaw you can still walk in to b n q, buy a chainsaw walk out with it, no questions asked and put yourself in hospital shortly afterwards!
Don't ever get complacent with your saw, it will bite back and doesn't leave prisoners. It doesn't need to be big wood either, I was clearing undergrowth with one of my smaller saws one day, the saw was getting a little blunt and I went to cut some bramble as think as my thumb. As the saw was blunt it gripped the bramble and ran up it and back at me. Lesson learned that day, always have a sharp saw.
On a lighter note Stihl is the daddy of a workhorse, all my saws are stihl and i abuse them, two of them are 15 years old now and still rip with a sharp chain!

Just a thought, but what about a battery recip saw…. Makita or Dewalt for example?

Thats what I did -

I had a burner fitted in February and was looking at chainsaws, I was highly recommended a Stihl MS, for the same idea, any logs kicking about I’ll have them etc, in the end though I thought I’d have to find them, cut them, split them, season them, so I just used my chain saw money to buy some seasoned hardwood logs and I got a recip for any odds and sods, it’s pretty good though I’ve filled two ton bags of odds and sods using a recip saw and a small hatchet, and a local tree surgeon sells two ton bags of seasoned hardwood logs for £110 delivered loose on the driveway.

I don’t have much outdoor space to store / dry logs so this factored in my decision, if I had more room I’d maybe scavenge more logs to split and dry at home.

Another factor is everyone around here is already geared up out and about poaching logs so I thought id of come out empty handed most times!

Some of us are professional log poachers lol …. I’ve a McCullock 335 it’s been 100% reliable workhorse … I’ve gone to an Oregon duracut chain and it’s made a big difference in staying sharp ….also using a Dremel now to sharpen
