Which Fridge?

It’s 14 litres is perfect for our family of five. 1 sandwich and drink each and keep swapping. But yes not massive Was handy with the boat as we took it with us.

have a quest( go outdoors )12v\ mains and gas as above post says drains battery quickly but on move ok as plug in to 12v supply but does get a bit warm in use never tried on gas usually leave plugged in to mains til last minute then add pre chilled beer\food keeps mates happy

we bought a Mobicool FR 34 compressor fridge, from Sotel.de earlier in the year and have been really pleased with it.

12v and 240v and seems to keep things cold, might be worth a look.

I just bought the engel mr040f fridge.
It is a 40 liter compressor fridge that fits behind the passenger seat. My 2 year old daughter Cant touch the ground with her feet so no problems there as she sits behinds the passenger .

It is a compressor fridge without al the fancy digital temperature controls , but with really low bat consumption and it is Well built.

Keep on the 1 setting, anything higher than that Will freeze your food, as you can use it as a freezer aswell.

Will switch auto between 12 volt and 230, and can run of solar.

It runs for 2 days /nights on the standard standard vw leisure battery i have in my panel van. Without depleting it fully

Not cheap but is you look around you van get a good deal on Them. I got mine for 499 euro's.

weve got one of these 3-way fridges too, much better than the thermo electric cooler boxes. so far just used on 12vdc & 240vac

I would blow the budget on a good one because it will hold its value hence you will get a better selling price if you don’t want to keep it - you will be then hiring it ;)

HMMM, this is not looking good for the bank balance . . . .

I've had numerous ice boxes over the years . . . .

the a few Thermoelectric coolboxes . . . . . which have come and gone.

Currently have two of these . . . (well the older version without the thermostat) (which are ok but draw 3-6Amps(each))

Powerbox® Plus 28L 12/230V electric cooler

.......

we also have one of the Quest Absorption fridges, which is WAY BETTER than the cooler boxes . . . . . but still a bit greedy on Power, (can still be up to 6amp but it cycles on-off to the stat temp)

So . . . . . after Looking over all your suggestions i have found a fridge that is highly recommended and that i like the look of & spec

BUT . . . . man the price !!!!!!!!!!!!!! - How do i justify the cost - I've already talked myself into it, but still !

DOMETIC COOLFREEZE CFX 40W :

Dometic CoolFreeze CFX 40W - Portable compressor cooler and freezer

this one seems to be very low current draw when its reached temp and cycles the compressor on/off as reqd.

.

We have just been to Italy and France with ours (CFX 35) in 35 plus degC. We set it at 4 degC and it maintained that perfectly on both 12v and hooked up to the EHU. We did a couple of nights off EHU with no problems. Yes they are expensive but I think we would have struggled with anything else for the past 2 weeks.

Just managed to nab a dometic cfx 35 off ebay . . . . Cheap!. (Well comparatively speaking as nothing dometic is cheap)

New apparently . . . Let's hope all is well with it and delivery.

Not exactly what I wanted . . . Was looking at the cfx40, which is the same as cfx35, just a bit taller for more capacity.

Fingers crossed.

Compressor fridges use much less 12v battery power than the thermo electric ones.... but are much more expensive.

I'd be interested too in any recommendations from people who run compressor mobile fridges or other.

We run 2x campingas 12/240v mobile fridge/coolbox which are fine when the engine is running.... but will kill the battery dead in 24hrs.
