I've still got one left.

it’s definitely worth reading the instructions, as mentioned before, if the Noco can’t detect the battery voltage because it’s so low, it won’t jump start, you need to press the x boost button to jump start, this also removes the safety features so double check everything is correctly connected.

I'm thinking of carrying my old battery as a jump start; it went flat last year when the alternator failed however changed with a new stop/Start and kept the old as a spare once I recharged it in the house. I'm hoping that will suffice as a back up compared to buying a jump starter kit.

That's a big numb lump to be carting around just on the off chance.

Aye that's that balance I know, haven't needed a jump since owning the van but I'm not spending x amount on the right jump starter if I don't need it. I should also mention it's sitting in the garage out the way and I'd probably only take it if I was going somewhere for more than two days. We have leads and I'm sure most people would be willing to give us a hand at a campsite anyway

A NOCO is not just a jump starter. Mine has a torch and can be used as a battery pack as well. My Father-In-Law kept leaving his car-derived van door slightly ajar overnight leaving the interior light on. I used my NOCO to super boost the dead battery several times before we took his licence and the car away.

My booster has the light - white and red with different modes as well as a built in compressor for pumping up tyres etc. The tyre inflation is surprisingly impressive. We had a small Ting one before which was OK but noisy and took an age on the van, this one seems a tad quieter but a lot faster.

As it’s basically a plastic box full of lithium cells (and the pump gubbins) I also bought a LiPo charging bag and store it in that. Prevents damage and in theory reduces the risk of a fire if anything shorts. I charge it in the bag too, as that’s what they’re designed for, and it doesn’t seem to get too warm.

I read a Which Review on tyre compressors and got the one with the best accuracy so I’ve got that covered too :D

Unfortunately after less than a year I am through my second battery... Going to try warranty again.... worked last time! Noco coming into play last few days. Trouble I have is don't have time to go decent run so flat each time... Good old noco! Def some piece of kit! Maybe my next van won't need :)

1000013560.jpgI got one of these. Jumping jack. Jumps upto a 2.5 diesel, comes with different charging leads for phones, laptops etc. Never really ran it to empty, but has powered an ipad that is used as a TV in the back for the kids for a 6 hour road trip and only used 25% of battery, so pretty good.

:eek:Evening all. Just thought I'd do my seasonal awareness post again :waving:.

Getting cooler over here in NI so a few things to be aware of if regularly or potentially needing to rely on Noco Boost GBX75 or similar.

For those that don't know my van has a power drain which cannot be found and is known to be a inherent issue with the breed (f*rd). I ride with my Noco plugged on to batteries danglies 24/7  I like to think it's my own bespoke ghost and cost me no extra

1) Make sure you don't go below approx 2 bars if needing to boost. In colder weather frequent boosts appear to drain Noco more :eek: in summer 2 bar will boost in cooler weather may not.....

2) trial any usb c chargers you have to check which one will allow ultra fast charge.... You thought watching a kettle took a long time, try waiting with van load of fam waiting on enough boost to depart

3) if any of above are potentially difficult and gonna leave you exposed :inlove: consider parking on a hill. The kids love a bump start on way to school. Daddy cool ha!

Keep on trucking!

Do Not bump start.
You can do a lorra lorra damage.

I ended up with a Gooloo X7. Less than half the price of a Noco.
There are a tranche of reviews about the new Nocos (GBX) not lasting more than a couple of years. There are loads for sale on auction site for spares/not working. That is good enough for me to figure out that I'm not going to spend £200-300 on something that I might not use and in a couple of years time might be a paperweight.
Still, the good thing is that even a broken Noco seems to sell for a good price but at least I've got a tyre inflator added on the X7.

Cheers for advice @whodat hadn't ever tried a bump start until needs must. Now I know that my 2) laptop charger appears to do rapid charge I will keep in mind! Also will do a check more often. Worked out a could kinda trickle charge where it's located of leisure battery. Not sure if @Dellmassive or yourself or anyone could advise if boosting when charging was a no no?

What do you mean by boosting when charging?
Every so often I use a 5amp charger through the cigar lighter socket. Don't use any more than that if going through the sockets.

Word on the vine is that bumping diesels can crunch up gearbox.

Gave my Noco GB70 a whirl last week … it was brilliant. And I now know how to use it after a lad round the corner couldn’t start his car. He thought I was doing him a massive favour, which was nice. But really I wanted to see how it worked even if it was on a small petrol engine!

Thanks read that yip. What I mean is... The Noco is connected to battery under seat. I have a usb charge point on pillar next to it. If I had lead in usb power point connected to Noco it would be charging all time. When I lean back to 'boost' the van to get it started ideally I would not disconnect the charging cable. Can't imagine it doing much if any damage but wasn't sure. You perhaps do!

The boost / jump packs would normally be connected to a vehicle just to jump start a flat battery.

That would imply that a EHU charger wouldn't be connected....?

I run two NOCOs jusmp packs... And have had 5 over the years... SOld on the others.

Not had any fail, apart from the GB150 that I cooked when I left it in the tent on a super hot summers weekend and the cells swelled and split the case
... Totally my fault... It was probably 50degc inside that tent.

And NOCO were kind enough to replace the unit outside of warranty at cost.

...

Provided you don't let them run flat and keep them in the temp range they are fine.

Most of the knackered ones are from people leaving them flat for months allowing the cells to drop too low.

I've had a few of the. Cheaper ones and didn't live up the NOCO.

Not looked at the one mentioned above.

Fyi I have the noco gbx75 + case in the Bus.

And then gbx155 + case in the van.

So I always have them with me, not needed for my vans but have helped many others.

Aside from that both my vans have the Abelmail amt12-2 trickle charger for the starter battery.. that's kept the starter topped up from the leisure battery.

ooh, thanks for the reminder, must get mine out and check the charge level.
