Who is happy or unhappy with the standard H4 headlights?

Having driven a T6 van with standard H4 bulbs at night, what is your opinion of the headlights.

  • Unacceptable, but I'll just take the front of the van off and pay to change them myself.

Its so hard to figure out this area as some state max 55w lamps and other bits refer to lumens
Some bits talk about self levelling and other bits say dont worry
I think it depends what rules and regs book you are referencing at the time, i need to stop before my brain melts :(

Whatever they are, VW looked at the cheapest option and decided it's loyal customers would put up with a pair of zippos for illumination.

It's not just the early vans with LEDs and no washers and no self levelling. The loan '66 plate Kombi that I am in has LEDs only.

I'm certainly baffled

I don't know, but will look for the AdBlue filler in the morning - but I think now I have been through all the MFD display and settings and didn't find the AdBlue range screen, so at a guess without going out in the cold, it would be Euro5.

The LED lights are good, I had an A4 with Bi-Xenons, up until two weeks ago and the LEDs are on par, so I really notice the difference against my H4 equipped Kombi.

The Salesman isn't going to enjoy getting the van back, as I have now played and adjusted every single setting and nothing is how I got it, isn't that what demo's are for ?

Oh and the tank's currently empty........

From what i know then the LED with washers were fitted to the MY17 euro 6 version as standard

I have washers on my other car and the pain is they chew through the water supply at a rate of knots, is there a bigger capacity tank with washers?

Got washers on my euro5 FOC, delivered May 16, just after it became standard for LEDs

Well fitted these today and the difference is amazing, the way they should be to start with....
Downsides are: struggling to get decoder inside headlight and I have a bulb out warning, but I can live with that to have decent headlights

I've too fitted these, yes the light is great but the bulb out warning and the fact they interfered with the radio has put me off of them, so in the bin they go!

Been back to the dealers today and one of the items for them to look at was the lights. Firstly the assistant on the desk told me, that Transporters always have bad headlights - I pointed out that H7's and LED's are not "bad" and that in my 25 years of VW ownership, the T6 H4's are the worst lights I have ever had and my T5 was much better and you would not expect VW to take a step backwards with a new model. After the Tech had had a look, they then told me that it could be because the glass on the light was dirty - I told them the van is cleaned weekly and it was certainly not down to dirty glass. They then told me that I have fitted aftermarket bulbs and that classes as a "Mod" and technically means I have invalidated the warranty - I told them that was a load of rubbish and that I had to change the original bulbs because they were like driving with nicotine stained net curtains hanging in front of the lights. The Tech then checked them and said there was nothing wrong with them. I asked them to adjust them to the maximum height they could to still comply with MOT regs. I will be on a late run tomorrow night so will see if it has made any difference. I very much doubt it has.

Hmmm - sounds like they are taking the "total denial" route. That is exactly how a large car firm gets itself firmly bitten on the backside.
I reckon there's a case for a class action.
