Who is happy or unhappy with the standard H4 headlights?

Having driven a T6 van with standard H4 bulbs at night, what is your opinion of the headlights.

  • Adequate, no problem.

  • Unacceptable, but I'll just take the front of the van off and pay to change them myself.

For anyone else who contacted VSDA, when they contact you, their number does not display and showed on my phone as 'No Caller ID'. Now, I generally don't answer calls like this because of likely hood of spam, but at least he leaves a message with a return contact number.

I spoke to him (DVSA) today, very nice chap but he is not confident he can do anything the best thing he thinks is to get in touch with vw hq.

Spoke to him today. Again, he is sympathetic to our complaint but feels his hands are tied as far as pursuing VW is concerned because the lights have passed type approval etc.
Looks like a group bombardment of VW may be next step.

Again I use the example of brakes; if they just passed minimum standards we'd double our braking distances and crash.
And they'd be blown out of the water by the media.
So why are safety critical lights "okay" if they pass minimum standards but are cack.

The van market is very competitive; "just good enough" isn't sufficient. However do note that Transits also have dreadful lights.
Anyone know what other recent vans are like illumination wise?

We pay a big premium for a VW, and really we should expect things like lights to be as good or better than the rest of the market. Most people test driving a van, would never pick up rubbish lights, you need to use it in various weather/light conditions along country lanes etc to realise their lack of illumination.

It's something you just assume will be okay.
Out of many cars I've owned, only the Defender had lights bad enough to be dangerous.
That was a 50+ year old design though!

Managed to catch up today. Really nice guy, but as the previous posts, the lights meet the required standard and there is nothing more they can do to help. He recommends we all keep putting pressure on VW.

No sadly not as we had a family bereavement. Hopefully going to make a start next week circumstances permitting and just to try and get my mind back into gear.

Hi are they easy to fit???
Do you need to remove anything
I found them easy to fit on my 204 DSG . I did the nearside (passenger side) first which I think helped as it's more room to get at. The offside is not bad to do but I suggest do that one last. Them bulbs I listed are very good and I am glad another member posted about them on this forum. I didn't need to use any tools only my pinkies!

Daughter just asked me replace blown dip bulb on Audi A3. Give me a T6 any time. Lost most of the skin from my hands what a devil of a job! T6 was a dream did both in 10 mins the A3 one took half an hour with a torch. Why do kids always Spring this on you when it's pitch black! Still all safe now that's the main thing.

Snap the same here.

Great thanks will get some bulbs ordered up and give it a go

Just fitted the Philips +130 to mine, will see how much difference it makes?...

Annoyed that the LED osram DRL bulbs thow an error? has anyone found any that work?

Loads of people on here have.. they're probably the most common bulb upgrade

Ok, that's good. I'm keen to get some real 'end user' feedback for these bulbs compared with the original H4's....brightness, reach/spread, colour tone etc.

I appreciate they're only a £20-25 investment and a very likely to be an improvement on the OEM Osrams - which can't be too difficult.
