Will I regret selling my Audi A7?

Hi.
For tax reasons I’m begrudgingly selling my 400bhp stg1 Audi a7 stepping into the T6 world. Looking for a 204 bitdi 4motion kombi/conversion. I really enjoy the effortless of the Audi. Will I be disappointed by the 204bhp? It’s gonna be empty most of the time, also would consider a remap, is that advisable?
I wouldn't !! I was in the same dilemma I ended up keeping my M3 comp ,as 204 bhp van is no comparison and it's difficult to adapt !
If you can stomach paying road tax ,ins etc , keep both for a year and see how it pans out !!

I think I'd try hiring a 204 DSG for a week. The cost of doing so is tiny in the scheme of things and it'd give you a real view on the reality of living with the T6 on a long term basis.
I agree with all of the above comments, a T6 is an extremely comfortable mile muncher and I wouldn't want to go back to having a "normal" car.
Great advise, I’ve only got 3 options. Electric car (f#%* that!) coz the low BIK.
Pick up ( complete compromise in my opinion) or a van. I couldn’t buy or drive anything else but a transporter.

Would love to keep both, especially when the re sale £ on the Audi is so crap. It’s gonna break my heart selling it for such a pittance of purchase cost. But I won’t use it and my neighbours will definitely get the hump with my 2 person household with 2 vans, 2 cars over noise motorcycle and no driveway. They already put up with 4 dogs lol

Unless you actually need a van, I wouldnt bother.
I certainly don’t need a van for work, but now I want a van. It really makes sense for every reason, I have to sleep in my vehicle occasionally, I’ve got dogs, bikes, motorbikes, grankids and probably a few friends who need a washing machines moving.
Due to being forced from being a sole trader to a vat registered company director. I’m in a position to make a van work best for me financially too.

Yes, but VW make it as a commercial vehicle which in most cases won't be driven by the owner, more often it'll be driven by an employee. Few buyers in those circumstances want to pay extra for tech unless it will increase the productivity of the driver.
To true. If only Audi did vans! Am I allowed to say that on a VW group

Think I’ve found a 204, 4 motion SWB t6, 36k miles. Lots spent on extras such as night heater, leisure battery.
Any advice pre purchase would be fantastic. Ta

They're just badges, you have no idea who actually designed your car these days. I wanted a Toyota van but the vans are just rebadged designs shared with Peugeot and others.

VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda, all part of the same parent company.

Re Pick Up - I think the now departed Govt closed the company car tax loophole on those. (Assuming thats why its on the list of possibilities!)

I have a couple pickups over the past 20 years plus, and actually think they worked better day to day than any other vehicles I have owned. My Caravelle is good and really good a globtrotting across Europe. Mind you I did this in my L200's np.

Pro's for van was:

ace for camping, much nicer bed
travelling big distances with bikes inside/outside
up to 7 occupants in great comfort, no fold out seat in the boot rubbish
that VW thing
not bad in snow being 4motion
DSG is a joy
seats move and can be removed - weight a bloody tun though

Pro's for the pickups with an hardtop was:

practicle, muddy dogs, bikes camping kit
no longer or wider than a big car, just tall
pretty good dirty stuff carrying capacity
off-road amazing

Estate/car:

cheap to run
easy to live with
can be 4x4

I am sure there is more, I am not sure what I would replace the van with next. I am keeping this for a few years though so I dont need to make that decision yet. My old (very rebuilt) Caravelle is quite fun and different (for me). We have a leased Merv small EV which is number one car day to day, this is occational second car and big trips. Neither of us do many miles PA

is it gone completly now? I had two L200's privately as pleasure vehicles and loved them

You are going to lose a lot of Gadgets and luxury ( think base model car)) but at least you can sleep in the VW. And wave at others. You will have plenty of time to do this due to the slow crawl you will be doing.

TBH. The Audi has to go, before my licence ends up back in Swansea for a really inconvenient vacation.
Amazing capable car, that can handle anything but a pothole.
But I have daily moments of 100+ stupidity.

Anyone want to buy an A7

When I bought my 204 4Mo four years ago it was set to replace our 4.2 V8 Audi S4. But I’ve had that car soooooo long that I just couldn’t bring myself to sell it.
However, it’s done about 400 miles per year since I got the van. I just go out and get in the van every time. It’s not fast but I just love it.
I occasionally go out in the S4 and overtake everything like a madman over the moors where we live and have a bit of fun, but that’s usually just to give it a run out to keep it tickety-boo.
Perhaps I’m old now and going fast doesn’t interest me that much anymore.
Who knows.

It was something to do with double cab pick ups. Two guys at work got them as company cars as the tax difference was massive compared to a normal car. If you google it, the news stories will pop up!

No change... decision reversed. But like VAR in footy....

On Monday 12 February 2024 HMRC updated its guidance on the tax treatment of Double Cab Pick Ups (DCPUs), following a 2020 Court of Appeal judgment. The guidance had confirmed that, from 1 July 2024, DCPUs with a payload of one tonne or more would be treated as cars rather than goods vehicles for both capital allowances and benefit-in-kind purposes.

Since then, the government has listened carefully to views from farmers and the motoring industry on the potential impacts of the change in tax-treatment. The government has acknowledged that the 2020 court decision and resultant guidance update could have an impact on businesses and individuals in a way that is not consistent with the government’s wider aims to support businesses, including vital motoring and farming industries.

HMRC have today announced that its existing guidance will be withdrawn, meaning that DCPUs will continue to be treated as goods vehicles rather than cars, and businesses and individuals can continue to benefit from its historic tax treatment.

Sorry to hear about parting with your Audi. The 204bhp 4Motion Kombi should still give you a smooth ride, especially if it's mostly empty. You might notice a bit of a difference, but it’s still got plenty of kick. And yeah, a remap can definitely give it that extra oomph if you’re missing the power. Enjoy the new wheels!

Perhaps I was being a little generous with the comparison to a base model car. They have half decent headlamps and suspension. But nothing a few grand spent on the Transporter can’t solve !
