Windows All Round Or Not?? Dummy or not??

Not done yet but rear windows are on the list. Also want the VW standard tint and not aftermarket which is much darker in most cases. Having researched it a bit it seems a bit of a faff to find the right ones outside of a VW dealer.

New Wave Custom Conversions install windows to match VW tint.

Having no rear windows does induce a level of being enclosed - whether you find this cosy, or claustrophobic, is something only you can tell.
Is your tailgate/barn-doors glazed?

I actually prefer the look that you have - windows in the sliding door but not in the rear quarter. I think it’s a good, rugged commercial look.
I had my van glazed all round but have ended up covering over the rear offside window with our furniture + lining.. I could have saved a few quid by leaving that section as panel-work, but don’t think my OCD would have allowed it!

You can always have the windows installed at a later date. Carpet lining them now will not much of an issue if and when you do add them.

I think ours has the darker privacy glass and we matched the rear quarters to it. I think the numbers are on here somewhere because im pretty sure i got them off here.Exploria fitted the windowsIMG_0097.jpgIMG_0098.jpgIMG_0100.jpg

I stuck matt black vinyl onto the panel first, here's a recent photo in good light, you can see the darker paint around the edge of the glass (painted directly onto the rear of the glass by the manufacturer) and the slightly lighter centre of the glass is the effect of the vinyl behind it. The middle window is see through, and the grey carpet on the rear inside panels makes it look almost the same.

I thought our T6 looked great without the dummy rears, but after some consideration I had them fitted and I think they look fantastic. I didn't want the windows to let the light in, as I carry a couple of expensive e-bikes I don't want to be on display. What you cant see, wont make you want them right!!…..

Before the rear dummy windows were fitted the side of the van was professionally sprayed black behind the window and then the adhesive added around the window and then a gap was left for ventilation to stop the window misting which could in turn cause green algae behind making it a waste of time and money!

Below are a couple of pictures before and after

Why did you spray the panels black behind the fake window? Was it a real glass gen Vw window?
My worry is it won’t match the sliding door windows ?

Hi @Lucio , Painted it black behind the windows, so you don't see the colour of the van when the sun is shining on the windows...sort of hides the fact they are just dummy windows :)

Oh ok lol
So do you use real glass or fake glass?
My worry is won’t match the window in the sliding doors and rears will be much darker so won’t look great?

Its real glass.....Luckily the guy who installed the dummy windows contacted the company I bought the van from originally and got the same glass they used for the middle windows....perfect match

So real tinted glass same as middle ones ye but surly the backs will be darker with the panel still there than middle ones that you can see through ? Sorry new to all this

I bought my camper conversion without the rear most window but I do have a tinted glass panel (same look as grim reaper ) just because i think it looks better. If I could turn back the clock I would have got a window put in though, it can be quite dark in the back and it would be nice to be able to look out and see the view.

Has anyone had a window fitted after the full conversion has been done ? I would really like to get it done but I presume it would not be possible as all the cutting etc.. would burn the carpet lining ? or am I incorrect?

I have a LWB & rear windows both side. It looks nicer from the outside and it feels less enclosed on the inside. I have furniture but it still allows some usage.

Wanting to do the same on my kombi , only worry is will rear fake match the colour of factory windows in my sliding doors?
Especially if the panel is still behind the fake glass so will be much darker than the fronts?

The fake windows are fully blacked out so yes they are darker than the oem glass but obviously not the edges where the oem windows sit against the body hence it kind of transitions from the rear quarter to the side windows. (I've no idea if that makes sense!)

I tinted over the original factory tint which makes it even better as the factory tints are actually quite light.

As a note, make sure you get the rubber seal that sits between the side windows and the rear quarter or else you can see the paint between the two windows.

I've tried to take a pic to show but because of the reflection it all looks the same 20200405_154922.jpg

Can you see any markings on the existing side windows, a make or code of any kind? I found the importer for the windows I already had and got rear quarters from the same manufacturer to match.

So VW glass then, if you want to match perfectly get rear quarters from VW in the same tint, or see if you can find an aftermarket that matches, I think Leisure Vehicle Windows do a VW match?
Leisure Vehicle Windows T6 price list
If I were you I’d ask them if their light green windows are a match for the ones you have (quote or send them a picture of the markings) then go down the matt black vinyl on the panels first like I have done with mine.
If their glass doesn”t match, you may have to go with VW original but still do the vinyl thing to reduce the look of the painted panel under the glass.
