Windscreen Replacement Cost

Just had my buzz in for new rear bumper and needs spraying .
Had it 10 days and I had a hire van payed for by the other party insurance.
This should have been done in 3 days max .

Typical lack of cost control - that why we all pay so much for insurance. I have a friend in “”credit hire” as it’s called - supplying like for like vehicles for no fault claims. I remember in 2007 a guy in a Gallardo got rear ended by a £500 Fiesta. My friend was asked to supply a Lamborghini Gallardo as a direct replacement. He didn’t have one but went out and bought a brand new one. It was hired out at £1250 day ! The repairs to the Lambo to over 3 months as parts from Italy were in short supply. Enough said :)

I had a heated screen replaced a couple of weeks ago, pleasantly surprised to see it was pilkington glass. Before going via insurance with £125 excess I called a few companies and couldn’t get one fitted for less than £500.

This happens all the time sadly and has been for a while. As others say it’s one of the main reasons we all pay through the nose. The insurance companies could stop it but choose not to and a cynic might assume that’s because there is money in it for them.
There have been cases where the bill for a hire car reaches well into thousands while happily they pay claims handling companies £380 a day for a Ford Fiesta or similar size hire car - something these companies can probably get for no more than £80 a day.
Then there is the insurance company that advised a client who had a no fault claim not to use the courtesy car part of her policy (that she paid extra for) and to use a hire car (provided by a company they chose) because she’d get to have a car while hers was waiting for repair rather than just while it was being repaired. They didn’t actually disclose the specifics or the risks and she ended up with a bill because the other insurance company refused to pay for the hire car.

The government are starting talks with various parties as they have highlighted car insurance companies are now harming the UK economy. They cannot understand why the UK has seen such hefty increases while nowhere else has - be interesting to hear the justification for that.
Hopefully we can see some positive action against this profiteering and complete lack of cost controls. And that could have the knock on effect of all those people who choose not to insure, because they simply cannot afford it, might be able to - which would be another way of reducing the cost to the rest of us.
I won’t hold my breath though.
